Hello and welcome to spooky month, better known as October! I am your wonderful host for News and Noteworthy, Kali! This month, instead of focusing on the past like a famous Hispanic holiday (All Hallows Eve) and Halloween do, we are going to look to the bright and amazing future! We have so many spotlights this month, some of which do bring up the past, and others which can point to a bright and amazing future for all of us! So, let's dive in!
This month's Forum Spotlight is going to focus on the Careers forum. Here you can find all the amazing careers that HEX offers to graduate witches, wizards, and wix. You can continue your studies after Hogwarts and follow your dreams in any one of the amazing careers. Currently offered, you can find Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, Healer, Shopkeeper, Ghoul Task Force, Magical Law Enforcement, and many more! So, if you are nearing graduation or even graduated last year, head on over to the Careers forum to find your next step in your magical future!
This month's Thread Spotlight is going to focus on the Careers thread that can be found in the Headmaster's Study. In this thread, you can find any updates to any careers offered, you can discuss the different careers offered, and you can try and get answers to what classes are required, and if any of the careers are full. So, if you want to try and plan for what you want to do after graduation, head over here to find your answers and discuss with others the pros and cons to each career.
This month we are including a new Spotlight. Replacing the User Spotlight, I am going to be putting a spotlight on the actors who played different characters in the movies. This month's Actor Spotlight is going to focus on Richard Harris. He played Albus Dumbledor in both the Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. He was an amazing actor who did amazing in his role as Albus. Unfortunately, he was taken too soon from us during his passing on Oct 25th, 2002. He brought to life the persona of Albus as the Headmaster of Hogwarts and someone Harry began to look up to in his time there.
This month's Item Spotlight is going to focus on the Crystal Ball. Used by seers such as Professor Trelawney, this item can be used to see a person's future. Crystal balls are usually a crystal or glass ball commonly used in fortune-telling. Between the 5th and 16th centuries, the crystal balls were seen as a figure of an evil spirit. People feared them due to Christians spreading lies about them and equating them with the devil.
This month's Quote Spotlight is focused on "If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of ten years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people." This quote was given to us by Confucious. I believe when he said this, he was trying to tell people that if we really want to improve the future, we need to be teaching our young. Whether you plant a seed, a tree, or the joy of education in a young mind, you are looking at improving the future for generations to come.
This month's Character Spotlight is focused on Severus Snape. Known to most Hogwarts students as Professor Snape, he was the Head of House for Slytherin, and for a short time he was also the Headmaster of the school. While most believed him to be evil, he was secretly a double agent for Professor Dumbledore. While he wasn't a big fan of Harry's father, he did care for his mother and because of that he did take care of Harry throughout the books and the movies, though most students didn't see it or believe it. He was the Potions teacher at the school because Albus felt that he would do better there than as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
This month's Holiday Spotlight is focused on World Teacher's Day. This year it lands on October 5th. Teachers are our children's main source of education besides their parents as they grow up. And not a lot of teachers are appreciated as they should be. They are unfortunately underpaid and some even must help provide school supplies for their students. So, whether you are in school still, or have children who are in school, please show appreciation to your teachers this year. I know I will show it to my son's teacher.
Well, we've learned a lot of things this month about our future. Whether it be ideas on how we can improve the future for future generations from Confucious or learning of items that have been known to be used in fortune telling, I know I have learned quite a bit. I am going to be showing my son's teacher appreciation on World Teacher's Day this year and for years to come. So, go show your teachers some appreciation, pick up a good educational book, or even just plant a few trees. This is Kali signing off to go learn more.
