The sky is full of many wonders and many different colors depending on a wide variety of factors such as time of location and where you live. One artist is so good at depicting the sky in many different forms because he is so great at utilizing colors. This artist is Jon Rattenbury.

This artist was born in England and is known for his use of vibrant color to capture nature's - and the sky's - amazing beauty. Later, as a toddler, he would move to the United States with his family. He spent most of his childhood exploring the landscapes of different places which inspired his art. Rattenbury created his own unique process in art, dimensional acrylics on aluminum which combines many components like aluminum, modeling paste, polymer clay, resin, glass, stone, sand, and metallic acrylics. Now let's take a look at several of his artworks.

Enchanted Daybreak is an image which depicts a sunrise. Rattenbury uses many different colors to create a magical appearance as the sun is rising behind all of those hills.

Winter Sunset Reflections captures many shades of oranges and yellows while depicting the sun setting on a dark and cloudy day. I think this image is a nice contrast to the one above which had so many colors. This one, on the other hand, had much fewer unique colors and yet still depicted a beautiful sky.

Niagara Falls Summer depicts a perfectly clear day. What makes this image particularly impressive is the subtle rainbow rising over the falls, appearing almost transparent.

I think The Golden Moon is beautiful in its simplicity. This piece is primarily painted in shades of blue, which really drags one's focus to the bright and vibrant full moon shining in the sky.

This next piece is really dark, but does not take away from the beauty of it. Beneath the Starry Night really uses the darkness of the land to help shine the light on the beauty of the twinkling stars in the sky.

These last two are two of my favorites from Rattenbury.

The first is Destination North. This image shows one of the many ways that the Northern Lights can shine in the sky. I think the way the green reflects on the body of water is just as amazing as the way he made the strokes of green look alive in the sky.

The final work we are going to look at is Northern Quest. This is another amazing look at what the Northern Lights can look like in some areas. This one really spoke to me because of the use of both purple and green. It actually reminds me of the Northern Lights I was lucky enough to see when traveling at one point. It is really difficult to capture the beauty of the lights in a still picture or painting because the lights are constantly moving, but I feel Rattenbury captures them very well.

So what did you think of these paintings? Do you have a favorite?

See you all in the next issue!
