Hello my ambitious and cunning snakes. If you've ever read fanfiction, I'm sure you've read one that had the same theme as in this month's issue of SOUP - Slytherin Hermione Granger.
Now, I always pegged Hermione as a Ravenclaw. However, after speaking to a few of our fellow Slytherins, I can see her as a snake as well.
Before I go into the responses of our fellow housemates, I wanted to thank everyone that provided a response to these questions. It was such fun to hear your choices and reasoning. I appreciate you all! Thank you!
Now, lets get to it!
Serenity Black: Would Hermione have made a great Slytherin? If so, why. If not, why not?
madamelute: I actually believe Hermione would have made a great Slytherin! I, myself, have always been "sorted" either into Gryffindor or Slytherin, so I'm probably biased to think that students of the two Houses share some important common qualities. I feel that Hermione always had the ambition and drive to prove herself to be the best in a group, which would have been appreciated at Slytherin. Also, she could be cunning and unafraid to break rules (hmm, can we say, unscrupulous?) in order to accomplish what she believed in. Perhaps, had events or influences in her upbringing prior to Hogwarts been somewhat different, the sorting hat could have placed her neither in Gryffindor nor Ravenclaw, but Slytherin...
Serenity Black:: Who would you like to have seen sorted into Slytherin in the books, that wasn't?
madamelute: Possibly not the most original answer, but I would have loved to read about a parallel universe where Harry was sorted into Slytherin. This way, we would get a less skewed view of the Slytherin House, and the story would likely be very different. Other than Harry, for some reason the person I think of off the top of my head is Cho - somehow I've always felt she had some Slytherin vibes (in a good way).
Serenity Black:: If Hermione had been sorted into Slytherin, how do you think she would have helped out our ambitious House?
Axolittl:: I think Hermione possesses several of the Slytherin traits, including both resourcefulness and cleverness. I believe that, if sorted into Slytherin, she could really harness those two traits into gathering more House points for Slytherin. And, with her leadership skills, she could probably push like-minded Slytherins to also use their traits for that purpose. I believe that Hermione could definitely send Slytherin in a positive direction towards success.
Serenity Black: What character do you think should have been a Slytherin, that wasn't?
Axolittl:: It took a bit of thinking on who should have been Slytherin, but I believe Albus Dumbledore actually fits quite well into our House. From a young age, we know that Dumbledore was quite ambitious, and desired to grow into a great wizard possessing all of the Hallows. Turning down the position of Minster of Magic might signal to some that he didn't actually want power, but it's clear that he knew teaching the next generations gave him more power over the people than working for the Ministry. Dumbledore is both clever and cunning -- he was very knowledgeable, knew how to use it to achieve his goals, and knew what information to release to others or keep secret. Dumbledore possesses quite a few Slytherin traits, and they are very prominent in his personality and story.
Serenity Black: What trait of Hermione's would have made her a great asset to Slytherin?
DiamondSwan15: Hermione was ambitious. She always wanted to be the best and studied hard so she could be the best.
SerenityBlack: What character do you think should have been a Slytherin, that wasn't?
DiamondSwan15: Albus Dumbledore. He could be quite cunning sometimes in the way that he let things play out and only stepped in when things had gone too far. I mean he was quite cunning about the whole 'setting up his death' thing because he knew that he was going to die anyways.
Serenity Black: Would Hermione have been successful as a Slytherin? Why or why not?
AccioNox: I think that her success would have depended on her entire attitude. As a Muggleborn, she would probably struggle when it came to interacting with the likes of Draco, Pansy and even students like Blaise. However, I believe Hermione could have done very well in Slytherin if she just kept her head down, focused on her work and helped the House gain those valuable house points. Her Head of House, Severus Snape, may have been nicer to her, however, because of the way he treated Lily and the regret he has.
Serenity Black: What character do you think would have made a great Slytherin, that was sorted into a different house?
AccioNox: I have always thought that Harry would have made a great Slytherin. Throughout the series, we see him meddling and poking his nose into other people's business. I also believe he has the potential to be cunning and I was disappointed that he was a Gryffindor.
Serenity Black: Would Hermione have made a good Slytherin? Why or why not?
wkyd1: Yes, Hermione could have been a Slytherin. She had many traits that Slytherins possess. She was ambitious, resourceful, cunning, and clever.
Serenity Black: What character do you think would have made a great Slytherin, that wasn't?
wkyd1: Hermione for the above reasons.
Again, thank you for all that I had the pleasure of chatting with for this month's issue. This is Serenity Black, signing off!
