Letter from the Editors

By Nicole & Erikka

Welcome back, lovely readers, to another issue of SOUP. I think the cover gave us away a bit, as to what the theme is this month. We've decided to go old school and look back on our ancestors, in light of Ancestor Appreciation Day (which is September 27th, by the way). Really, everyone should be doing this, because without our ancestors, we wouldn't be here!

So, what is SOUP's ancestry like? I'm sure all of you are curious! Aren't you? Well, you better be! To start us off, there were actually two other Slytherin newspapers, both in 2006, before SOUP came around. These were called SOAP and THWAP. In addition, there was SRAMM that ran through the summer months in 2006. ... and then there was nothing. How sad, right?

BUT BAM. SOUP came along on October 1st, 2007, founded by SapphireSmoke (Mary). Since then, SOUP has gone through many changes, some small and some enormous! Former Editors include Jason (Eros Eldarian), Alisha (Deidra), and more recently our very own Tyler (Phoenix101). Oana (Sophia Oceanborn), one of Slytherin's Assistant Admins was also a SOUPer in the past, as a manager.

There have been MANY Slytherins who were once writers and/or graphics/coding team members. A shout out to some of them, in no particular order: Shaya Mason, xxmissyxx101, Luxa, Scorpiodude31, DONT_CARE, cadere_ragazza, iluvani88, Lenalie, ZZZ628, Vamp_Shadow_Werewolf, goingonegone, felicity stormborn, rosie2821, and Demostene.

Other than those who have made SOUP into what it is now, there has been a lot of change in regards to the look and design of the House publication. It seems like it was just yesterday when Sara made SOUP's very own branding guide! You know that nifty logo we use for like everything? Yep, that!

There have also been so many memorable issues. One I constantly go back to, because it fascinates me, is the July 2013 issue, where you could either have "A Begrudging Experience" or "A Happy Celebration"! I'm sure we all know what one we chose for Potter's birthday, yes?

Now it is our job to continue this legacy!

Until next time,
Nicole & Erikka
