Legends Among Us
By James Rowle XI
Hello readers, it's me again with another addition of Legends Among Us. As you may all know by now, the current theme for the month is 'Dia de los Muertos' or in English 'Day of the Dead'. Now I have never been accused of being a stickler for the rules, in fact quite the opposite. My own brother called me a Contrarian, someone who deliberately disagrees with popular opinion simply because it is popular. So as to not disappoint him, and to live up to my title, I shall instead talk about two very much alive people. Big shocker there, I mean it is an article about two people who have recently won awards.
Moving on, the first person we are here to talk about is Trisha (Penguins2323) who was September's Heir of Slytherin winner. Trisha originally was a member of the brave Gryffindors down the road, but then she saw the grass was greener on our side. Next minute she was a Slytherin, and has inserted herself as a very popular member of our house. In the short time here, Trisha has already won us over enough to win Slytherins Friendliest person award. Outside of classes, she was previously a Magical Education Moderator. During her brief period as a moderator, during the summer, she helped implement and run the new program that is currently used in the education program. Anyway, enough of my rambling, let's here a bit more about this wonderful person in her own words:
My Achievements on Hex: ME Mod is the achievement I am most proud of as the school system on here is one of my favorites & always something that I wanted to be a part of because I have always loved schooling. I love learning new things & I also like to help teach others. So I see no place better & I could not have picked anything better than that myself as it is my most favorite part of the site. The other Achievement is the Heir of Slytherin which I am quite proud of as I really try to do my best for the house & I also like helping others in the house.
I first joined Hex due to a friend introducing me to the site, but I did not stay after she left as at the time I was too shy to be social & really did not see the great things the site & everyone here has to offer. When I came back it was about a little over 2 years ago I believe. I had made a few friends & I was still shy. When I was here I was first sorted into Gryffindor. Sadly I never felt like Gryffindor was my home because I was just a shy little lurker who was afraid to show herself to the awesome people here. I took a chance on one of the restocks & it happened to be a Slytherin event.
I started to see a new me, one that was not shy or afraid to say what was on her mind. I have a few friends who helped with that as well. So when I decided I wanted to switch houses at first I was torn. As I had liked Slytherin due to how kind everyone was & how I could be me. Though I was also getting pulled to switch to Hufflepuff as I was in Hufflepuff on Pottermore. I have many traits of many different houses. Though to me the Slytherins stood out from the rest & I realized that is where I wanted to be. I am grateful for that because I see a different me now than when I first joined.
When I first joined I was shy & scared of meeting new people & making new friends. Though now it is the one thing I cherish & like to do. When I first joined I never did RP's as I wasn't good at them. Granted I still do not do them as often as I am still no good at it, but once & a while I give it a try.
I was always one for writing as I had gone to college for that. I was an English major with a minor in Political Science. At the time I had thought that was what I wanted to do. It took me a bit to realize that it wasn't for me & that I was in the job that was for me all along.
Now let's move to the Order Of Merlin Recipient, our very own, Nicole (Nicole2013). An incredibly well-known and respected member of Slytherin House. I might be a bit biased here but I personally feel her best achievement on HEX was hiring me as a writer for SOUP and uncovering my talent. Alas, some might consider her other achievements, numerous as they are, more important. As mentioned, Nicole is one of the Co-editors for this lovely magazine and also a HEX site staff member. To be honest, I'm lazy and we have limited amount of paper (we're eco-friendly) so I won't be listing all her accomplishments, awards, and notable positions. You'll just have to check out her beautiful profile for that. Some major ones though are Heir of Slytherin, Slytherin House Best Staffer, Best SOUP writer, and Best Roleplayer. As well as participating in major site events like HNTGD, the IHC, and RP factor. Finally, let's give Nicole a chance to talk about herself:
Oh my, I suppose I should be very shocked and all excited to have this opportunity to write in SOUP aside from my normal articles, yes? Well, I would feel that way if I hadn't been expecting it, since, well, I knew this was coming the moment I received the Order of Merlin award. Which, I am really thankful for. It was completely unexpected, and as I'm sure all Slytherins would say, it feels good to be recognized for the effort you put in. It's too bad James thinks he'll be recognized for featuring me, via pay raise. Ha!
Anyways, about me. Well, I'm a college/university student with about a year or less until I graduate. I'm majoring in English, with a general concentration, which probably is no surprise considering I've been apart of SOUP for years and also the Publications Management part of the site (and many other writing-related things). However, my main goal isn't to be a writer, freelancer or otherwise. Instead, I want to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). It kind of just hit me as my passion one day when I heard about this career option, while I was still a web design major. I want to be able to teach many different people in many different places.
Aside from school, I honestly live on HEX. Okay, maybe not. I'm totally in charge of making sure no one starves around here, and I've grown really fond of cooking. If the weather's nice, I enjoy being outside, and it helps that I live like in the middle of nowhere on a lake. ... so there's a lot of nature to see! Many people know, but I'm an avid fan of K-pop, K-hiphop, K-dramas, shows, and movies. I don't know that much Korean, but I see myself picking it up a bit. I've also taken Spanish in school, although that isn't quite related. Alright, I'll stop here before I take over James' article! Bye guys~
There we have it folks, our HoS and OoM recipients for Semptember. Both worthy winners and respected members of our noble house. I hope this has taught some of you a little bit more about the greatness that is Slytherin. I, for one, can not help but feel pride knowing that we accepted and made feel welcome someone like Trisha into our house. Also, I can hope that my abundance of praise for my editor, Nicole, will earn me a pay raise. See you next month readers, hopefully you'll be seeing a richer and happier me.
