Day of Mourning

by Wilma Heatherstone

This is halloween~ It's that time of year. Leaves are changing, people are bundling up for the cold and the hot cider and butterbeer are starting to become commonplace. But before we get too involved we should also take the time to remember the tragedy that happened. On Oktober 31st , Lord Voldemort arrived at the Potter's house and murdered James Potter in his own hall then went upstairs and killed Lilly Potter, who was trying to protect her only son, Harry. Then Voldemort turned his wand on the infant and uttered the words, but miraculously, Harry survived and Lord Voldemort was driven out as his wand backfired. All that was left was the crying infant with a peculiar shaped scar on his forehead.

Every year since that night, the Wizarding world from all over the UK join together to send up sparks of many colours to honour Lily and James Potter. Regardless of occupation or even house they were or currently in, differences were put aside for that night. On Halloween, Harry Potter not only lost his parents, but Hogwarts lost two of the most brilliant witch and wizard in a senseless act of violence and I want you all to remember, dear readers, treasure every moment with those you care about because anything can happen and sometimes, there is nothing you can do.

With all due regards, farewell until next time.
