Chatting with...

By Nicole

Welcome! Welcome! I hope you've got a comfy spot that isn't creepy in the slightest. Why? Simply because it is October and that means Halloween! In the spirit of the holiday, I sat down with a glass of Pumpkin Juice and one of Hogwarts' very own ghosts! Can you guess which one?

He might be considered a bit ghastly. He's also rather pale. He comes from the noble house of Slytherin. Do you have a guess yet?

If you said the Bloody Baron, then you're correct! Now I bet you're wondering how I was so privileged to get him to agree to a meeting, let alone an interview. That will be my little secret. I cannot let the public know. I'm sorry, but it would be just horrific if those pesky Gryffindors found out!

Leaving my mug of pumpkin juice on the table untouched, I started the interview. "So, Mr. Bloody Baron-is it okay if I call you that? - what is it like being a ghost at Hogwarts?"

"I suppose you can call me Baron," he drawled, "There is no need for that Bloody business. Being a ghost is what you would expect it to be. I have endless time to go over what I have done in my life."

"Oh! So Baron, what all have you done in your life?"

I was met with silence. The Bloody Baron was simply looking at me, his face seeming rather intimidating.

"Or maybe we'll skip over that question. Why do you have those chains?"

Again, there was silence. However, this time, he eventually spoke. "They are obviously a punishment."

And this was where I took a sip of my pumpkin juice. It was beginning to dawn on me that the Slytherin ghost was not much of a conversationalist. "So what do you think about Halloween at the school? I mean, since ghosts are a part of Halloween."

"I find it rather absurd that all ghosts are considered horrifying. I suppose maybe there are a few, but I find myself delightful!" This was not answered by the Baron, but rather buy someone behind me.

I whipped my head around to see who it could be. Of course, I should have been able to guess who was now talking to me. It was Nearly Headless Nick!

It did not take long for the Gryffindor ghost to situate himself next to the Bloody Baron. Sir Nicholas was unaware that the other ghost was eyeing him. At this point, I was scribbling down the events as they unfolded. Who knew I would be lucky enough to interview two of the ghosts?!

"Welcome Sir! I would have to agree with you. Besides that, do you like the holiday? Or what do you think about being ghost? Or maybe, are you ready for Gryffindor to be beat by Slytherin in the House Cup this year?" I really was having trouble with picking one question at a time, so please bear with me.

I could have sworn I saw Sir Nicholas's face light up at the questions he was receiving, meanwhile I noticed the Bloody Baron had disappeared!

"The holiday can be all sorts of fun! It makes me wish I could sit and have fun at the feast, or find myself a date for the Halloween Ball! Would you like to go with me this year? As for what I think about being a ghost. It really is not as strange as it seems. We do still get to talk and then of course floating through things is a rather nice ability." At the last question, the ghost seemed to frown. "I will have you know that Gryffindor will be the ones beating you, you slimy snakes! I do not know what I was thinking, asking a rotten Slytherin to do the Halloween Party. That invite is canceled. Now good day to you!"

With that, I was left sitting alone, mouth wide open. I really was not exactly sure what happened. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I ever want to interview a ghost again. Who knew it was possible to be asked to go to a dance with someone and then denied before answering?

Now we know that the Gryffindor-Slytherin rivalry runs deep. Even the house ghosts are affected by it!

Good luck to Slytherin, and goodbye to you, dear readers! Maybe now I can drink my refreshing pumpkin juice.
