Art Critiques
- By Luna

Art is an ever-changing subject, with various styles emerging as time goes on. From romanticism to realism, surrealism to dadaism, there have been many different trends throughout time periods. And while I could spend a whole article on that, I'm more interested in current art, as I'm sure a lot of readers are too! With the whole quarantine situation, some artists might find their creativity has been stifled, but others have only used the opportunity to try new things...

...including recreating famous paintings with items (and people!) from home!

That's right, today's article is going to focus on those cooped up at home who came up with wild, out-of-the-box ways to recreate famous paintings. Whether this meant using toilet paper as hair, their pets as props, or even themselves and their family, these creative souls recreated some truly fantastic art pieces from older times. From the famous Van Gogh's to the Mona Lisa, no painting has been left untouched when it comes to this type of recreation. Below are some of my favorites!

It's undeniably impressive how close the model looks to the actual painting. Not only does the background and color palette match nearly exactly, the model even managed to mimic the mysterious smile from the painting! Overall, a fantastically done recreation.

Another simply fantastic rendition of the original painting, Portrait de Madame P. by Tamara de Lempicka. While it might be hard to replicate the abstracter style of the artist, the model did a stellar job in the finer details, like the color of her nails and other makeup. In fact, you might not have even noticed that the flowers had been replaced by toilet rolls!

In one of my personal favorite recreations, a cat took the place of the famous melting clocks in one of Salvador Dali's most famous paintings, The Persistence of Memory. More like The Persistence of Meowmery, am I right? While it may not seem like much, there's certainly no denying that it's creative and out-of-the-box - which is the whole point of the challenge!

If you want more recreations to peruse, you can always check the subreddit /GettyMuseumChallenge for a whole plethora of artworks! Feeling inspired? The best part is, you can do it too! If you find any supplies just lying around on a lazy Sunday, give it a try! The next masterpiece might be yours...

Til next time, Luna.
