Puzzling Things
- By Morgana

Being grateful is a wonderful thing. Sometimes we are grateful for something or someone, and sometimes we are grateful that something did not happen. Gratitude can be expressed in so many ways - positively, negatively, cynically, sarcastically - and even threateningly, as in: "You will be grateful for X, or Y will happen." Throughout the seven books of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling wrote about various instances of gratitude and ingratitude. Having dug deep into our archives, we have found some illuminating quotes on the subject of gratitude for you to ponder.

Task: You are to work out who said which quote.

1. "Brave of you, not to run for a teacher. I'm grateful... it will make everything much easier..."
2. "I think he'll be grateful I've done it in good time, I mean, it's extremely busy in our department just now, what with all the arrangements for the World Cup."
3. "I'm so grateful... they think he'll be there a little while and it would be wonderful to be nearer... of course, that might mean we're here for Christmas."
4. "Master was a nasty ungrateful swine who broke his mother's heart."
5. "Why, I thought you might be grateful for a little extra authority."
