Potion of the Month
- By Eimear

As I was researching spells and potions for this month, I was not sure what I wanted to share with the readers this month. I have tried my best to talk about useful spells that can be used in everyday situations. So, I was thinking, just like in the Muggle world the wizarding world has pests too. From Gnomes to Ghouls to Doxies, wizards must have a plan up their sleeve if an annoying, unwanted creature starts slinking around their house. For this month, I have chosen a potion that is useful for getting rid of Doxies, safely. Indeed, Doxycide paralyzes a Doxy immediately for a few hours, so that a witch or wizard can safely remove them from a house without getting bitten by pesky beast.

Doxycide was invented by a wizard named Zygmunt Budge, however, it took a while for him to perfect the potion recipe which can be found in the Book of Potions. I will also include the recipe, in case any of you may need it or know someone who does. Let's get back to Budge, he created the Doxycide, but when he first tried it out, he managed to catch his entire house on fire and had to seek refuge in the sea near his home for the night. Eventually, Budge was able to perfect the recipe and safely remove the doxies from his home without catching anything on fire.

Brewing Instructions:
1. Juice the Bundimun. Add the Bundimun acid to the cauldron and stir quickly.
2. Grind the Streeler shells and add to cauldron.
3. Stir the potion then heat.
4. Add chopped Dragon liver and stir vigorously.
5. Add a dash of hemlock essence and stir again.
6. Add a glug of cowbane essence and a dash of tormentil tincture.
7. Stir slowly then heat the cauldron.
8. Wave your wand over the cauldron to finish the potion.

In the series we see doxies in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, as well as in the Room of Requirement, but there were only two cases where we saw the trio use Doxycide to rid the Ancient and Noble House of Black of the pests. Before the trio's fifth year, as they were staying at Grimmauld Place they helped clean the house, through non-magical ways since they were underage. Molly gives them all a bottle of Doxycide one day, and they tackle a particularly nasty herd of Doxies that were residing in the curtains. Fred and George Weasley took advantage of the situation to snatch a few paralyzed Doxies to experiment with for one of their new joke innovations.

Again, I hope you have found this article to be useful and if you are ever in need of Doxycide, you can probably pick up a bottle in Diagon Alley or you can brew the potion yourself if you are decent at potion-making.

Best of luck,
Eimear
