Crafting Scrolls
By Sylvie DeLorn
If there's a common theme within any Ancient Egyptian society it's the common messages read from paper scrolls. After all, who hasn't decided that they want to read their latest discoveries from a large rolled up piece of paper? Actually, a decent amount of people have probably never considered the idea, but I can guarantee from the depths of the never-ending yarn that it's an amazing accomplishment.
For this month's craft the only items we need are:
Some craft paper, cut to your desired length
2 dowels
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue
Twine (or any other substitute string)
I) Straighten out the paper and place one of the dowels against the end of the paper before wrapping only the edge of it around the object.
II) With the hot glue gun, place dots of glue along the edge of the paper wrapped dowel and the paper below it. Then slightly roll the dowel over the glue and hold it until the glue dries.
III) Place some glue on the inside end of the rolled up paper and hold it until that glue dries. This is to secure the paper in place.
IV) Repeat the previous three steps for the other dowel at the other end of the paper if you haven't already.
V) Carefully roll the two ends until they meet at approximately the middle of the page. This should make the page curl nicely.
VI) Obviously at this point you can write whatever you want within the scroll. When you're ready to tie it together just roll the scroll back up nice and tightly (be sure not to rip the pages as you're rolling) and then tie your choice of string around the middle so it holds in place.
And there you have it, your own personal handwritten scroll. These can be used for any occasion you wish, invitations of some kind or even a report of your choosing so you stand out from everybody else.
