Greetings fellow Slytherins! It's November and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here. I'm no cooking expert. However, I do have made a few dishes now and again. For this month, I'd like to suggest an appetizer that would be good to include during a Thanksgiving dinner. It's quick and simple which will allow for your guests and friends to have a nice snack, especially while waiting for the turkey. If you're a Muggle or half-blood, you probably already know how long it takes to complete properly cooking those turkeys. For those of us who know enough magic .. well ... we're lucky, I suppose.
Still, this can work regardless of how magically-inclined or not you are. This recipe is so simple that you technically don't need to use magic. You can if you wish, mind you. But I'm going to share this recipe as if it were written for a Muggle.
May I present to you the recipe for Feta Cheese Foldovers.
Ingredients:
- 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
- 3 tablespoons of finely chopped green onions
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 (17.5 ounce) package of frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg yolk, beaten with 1 teaspoon of water
Cooking Utensils:
- You will need access to an oven
- You will need a bowl
- You will need a fork
- You will need a knife
- You will need a blender
- You will need an unused tablespoon
- You might need an apron (for yourself, of course. This is optional but recommended).
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F or 190.5 °C.
- In a small bowl, blend the feta cheese, green onions, and egg together. Cut the pastry into 12 (3 inch) squares. Place a mounded tablespoon of feta mixture in the center of each square. Moisten the edges with water and fold the pastry over filling to form a triangle. Press the edges together firmly with a fork to seal them. Light brush the pastries with the egg yolk mixture.
- Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.
And voila! An instant, tasty snack to serve up! See? Easy? You don't have to use magic but you can. With how simple this is, however, I personally wouldn't bother.
May you all have a great Thanksgiving!
Until next time,
Elena Black
