Chatting with....
by Nicole
This interview is like no other, I promise you. It all started when I was sitting outside under a tree, wearing my scarf, mittens, and earmuffs. I am not planning on getting sick any time soon. Anyways, I sat under the tree, writing away in my notebook. I was supposed to be working on some sort of History paper, but that wasn’t as important as brainstorming on some ideas for future SOUP articles. I had yet to conduct my interview, and I could just not come up with who to interview for November. Really, who was there too choose? November is all about Thanksgiving, and that doesn’t give a lot of inspiration for who to choose.
Little did I know, I wouldn’t have to worry about it for too much longer. I was on the verge of giving up on my list of ideas, starting to scribble some cute little animal drawings on the edges of my paper. Perhaps I could try to interview an animal? That would surely be interesting. And so, I started a new list.
This was when a little Muggle ball (I would later come to learn this to be a Hacky Sack) plopped right in the middle of my notebook, making me mess up my little mouse drawing. I say Muggle ball because it was not like any I had seen before. Now who would that belong to, you may wonder. I wondered the same thing!
I looked up to see none other than Harry Potter. I know, you’re probably thinking “Ewww!”. Well, I was too. I really was hoping he’d come and get his little ball and then leave me be. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
“Hi, uh, could I have my ball back?” Harry asked, running a hand through his way too messy hair. Did he even own a comb or something?
I waved at him away after tossing it back to him, thinking I was done with a Gryffindor in my presence. I mean, I didn’t have time for him. I was working on something.
“You know, I don’t think I’ve really spoken to you before. What’s your name? You’re in Slytherin, right?” He probably noticed my house pride from my scarf and hat set, thanks to our very own Tyler.
“Do you really want to know or are you just trying to be nice?” I was trying to get rid of him, but then I thought of a brilliant plan. Why not try to get an inside scoop on the famous Potter? That would surely be impressive! “I mean, I’m Nicole. Nice to officially meet you. Why are you out here playing with that by yourself?”
“Nice to meet you too. I guess you know who I am then.” He was tossing the ball up and catching it, over and over again as we continued to converse. A bit antsy? “Just to think, you know? It’s nice to be out here and away from everyone so I can breath.”
I sat up a bit straighter, straining my ears and writing quickly in my notebook, making sure not to miss a word. “Who doesn’t know who you are? Everyone talks about you, good and bad. I definitely know what you mean. That’s why I come out here too. You know, do you want to take a seat over here...and can I interview you?”
I was totally expecting to hear him say no. From what I had noticed previously, he didn’t like talking to the media.
“Yeah, I’ll join you out here. Why not? What’s the interview for though?” Harry sat down next to me, trying to look at my notebook.
“Eh, no looking!” I said, causing him to look away from me. “It’s for SOUP. And no, don’t even ask what it is. All I can tell you is, SOUP is great. You won’t be disappointed by this interview.” I figured if I told him it was for the Slytherin Newspaper that he wouldn’t want anything to do with it.
“Fair enough. Start the questions! But I won’t answer anything I don’t feel comfortable with.”
“Alright, I suppose that’s fair too. So, first question. What do you like about this time of year?” I literally had to just come up with questions out of the top of my head.
“That would be the weather. It’s perfect. You don’t get too cold or too warm. And just look at the trees!”
“Is that really it? Do you like Thanksgiving?”
“Yeah, it really is,” he chuckled, “Of course I do! It’s a great time of year for having friends, and the food is to die for.”
“I guess that brings to question. What all are you thankful for? Spare us the lame stuff. The readers will want to know the juicy stuff. The food is pretty good, I have to agree.”
“Fine, I’ll try to give you something more interesting than just saying my friends. Well, there’s magic. I mean, I don’t even know where, or if I would be alive and myself, without being here at Hogwarts. And of course, there’s everyone who has helped me throughout my life, so far.”
I really tried to keep in my giggle, but it was really hard. “Is that really as far as you can go? No secrets that you’ll share?”
“I’m afraid not today! Sorry to disappoint,” he told me.
“It’s alright! At least it’s something. So, before we leave here, what’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?” I was getting cold, alright? And it was getting dark, and of course, I had more things to do.
“That’s really hard to figure out! Everything is just so good. Today I’ll choose the Pumpkin Pasties. Those sound really good right now, along with a cup of cocoa.”
“Those are a great choice! Well, thank you, Harry, for letting me interview you! I’ll send you a copy.” With that, we both stood up and went our separate ways.
I think this was probably a one-time thing. Why is he so guarded towards journalists? All we want to do is let the world hear his story. Too bad he didn’t give us any awesome and private information!
Thanks for reading! I’m going to go see if the House Elves will give me some special Pumpkin Pasties.
