Hello again everyone! I hope you enjoyed Briellerose and Ellieanarose having a turn because I'm now back and ready for another month. This month's theme was really easy for me and I hurried to the Hobbit Library and pulled out the perfect book. I laughed softly with glee before curling up by the fire to read it.
The book I have chosen is called The Magical Unicorn Society Official Handbook and it's written by Selwyn E Phipps, who is the current head of the Society. The first thing I noticed when looking through the book was the illustrations. The book was stunning and I have to admit that they are some of the best illustrations that I have ever seen. They really made me want to read the book.
Because of this, I found that it wasn't too much of a slog to read... to start reading as the illustrations break up the writing to a degree and that helped with getting into the book. I love the way that it details the history of unicorns. Did you know they existed on Earth long before we did? That's right! Unicorns have graced the planet much longer than we have. I didn't know that, so that was something interesting I learnt about it. I love the way that the book gives a brief history and introduced me to the seven different types of unicorns there are in the world today. I couldn't believe there were seven different types at all. It did seem magical that there are seven different kinds. For the record, the seven different types are: Mountain Jewels, Water Moons, Woodland Flowers, Desert Flames, Ice Wanderers, Storm Chasers and Shadow Nights.
Reading through the book, they are all so different when compared to each other. For example, the Ice Wanderers live in... well icy places and like solitude, whereas the Water Moons live... well in the water and can only be seen by the light of the moon or stars. The Mountain Jewels can be found in the harshest places on earth whereas the Woodland Flowers love to live in the woods, surrounded by flowers and trees. Dessert Flames love the hot deserts of the world, Storm Chasers can literally change the weather depending on the branch of Storm Chaser they are. There are the Sunshine, Shifters, Snow and Storm. Finally, there are the Shadow Nights which are extremely mysterious, ethereal beings and magic. They are the only unicorns who can exist in both our world and the spirit world.
What I love about this book is it's written by The Magical Unicorn Society and it discusses everything about unicorns and details the different types. I love the illustrations in the book. They're so pretty and cute but give information and pictures of the types of unicorns as well. I love that rather a lot as it adds to the magic of the book.
To me, at least, the book is a way to learn about creatures we know about but may not understand as well as we should. It feels like a doorway into another world... another magical world and I love that so much. I just love the way it gives a history of the unicorn and tells us more about them as the only way we can learn more about them is through books like this. Add a little magic into your life and, if you believe hard enough, you may find a unicorn near you soon. Just remember to be calm and gentle and you'll be fine.
That's all for this month but try this unicorn quiz to see which unicorn type you are. Share your results in the SOUP thread in the Common Room!
Lots of love,
Cissarose xx
