Mythical Sculptures
- Aria

You're probably reading this article and wondering if there are paintings about mythical creatures. Well, I'll tell you that there are, not the ones wizards might be used to, but there are some interesting art projects. Together, we'll go on an adventure and discover some interesting mythical creatures through sculptures and paintings. You might be surprised at the kind of art out there.

Firstly, we'll take a look at a sculpture of a creature that you might know! This is a bronze Chimera, which is an animal with a human face, serpent tail and cat-like traits. It even has a mane! This sculpture is from the fourth century BC and was discovered on November 15th, 1553 in Arezzo. I couldn't tell you where that is but look at this cool looking sculpture. It's nearly life-size, can you believe that? It's probably a lot bigger than me, and now, I'm a little bit scared of that idea. But take a moment and look at the details! It's beautiful!

Today's just a day of sculptures because these are really just incredible to look at. Our next sculpture is of Islamic art! I think it dates back to about the eleventh century and is actually part of a group of other animals! This one is called a Pisa Griffin. Where did this sculpture come from? It seems as though the origin might even be from Spain, but somehow, it made its way to Pisa, Italy. Perhaps it flew or swam. Are those wings? Or just extensions? You tell me. What do you think? Is it some kind of water animal? During the research, it was obvious that it was some kind of Griffin, but it really doesn't look like it.

We've got a little treat today! We have a third sculpture for you because the antlers on this animal are absolutely stunning. This sculpture dates back to 300 BC, and is from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty of China! Now, it's in the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum in Xi'an. Look at it!

I can't take my eyes off it. It seems as though it's some kind of deer, with these elegant mythical antlers. If you look closely, it looks as if the antlers even have animals in them. But if you look down at the bottom, there's holes! Could this have been part of something else? Some kind of crown or something? The research seems to believe that, and now, I want a deer crown with antlers like this. What do you think?

That's it for today! I think we saw some incredibly cool sculptures and now, I wish I could actually create some, but I'm not that talented. I'll stick with sharing art with you! As always, if you have any fun art you'd like to share with me, please feel free!

Stay artsy,
