Chatting With

By James

Hello dear readers who all deeply worship me. Now I'm sure many of you missed my brilliant charm in the last issue but never fear, I am back. I, unfortunately, had to take a month long break so I could travel the deep dark tunnels of HEX to find my next victim. Now the person I interviewed for this month is a bloke that I'm sure we are all familiar with, a legend among the SOUP staffroom. I am, of course, talking about the great man himself, Tyler(Phoenix101). In no way whatsoever was I bribed and/or threatened into praising this wonderful person. I just have extremely fond memories of his being an editor before we were subjected to this tyrannical rule of Nicole and Erikka. Just kidding guys, I love you.

Anyway, as I sure hope you know by now, this month's issue is on Movie Night. We all love movies, and Tyler is no exception. So read on to find out all his views on everything you need to know about movies:

Q - Questions
A - Answers

(With a grin on my face I started the conversation.)

Q - First, I would ask you who your favorite SOUP writer is, but the answer is obviously me.
A - The ghost of me, actually.

(Here I gave Tyler the most offended look I could imagine. Hopefully he felt like he kicked a puppy or something. That'll teach him.)

Q - Ahem, anyway, this month we are talking about Movie Night. So what is your favorite, and least favorite, Harry Potter movies?
A - Hmm, I think my fav movie in the series is Goblet of Fire. I'm a sucker for the insight into other Wizarding Schools. My least fav? Probably the Half-blood Prince? I don't know, I need to rewatch them all honestly.

(Good news Snape-lovers. There's a chance his least favorite might not be the movie where Snape gets the most back-story.)

Q - Would you mind if they re-made the Harry Potter films in ten years time?
A - Oooh, conflicting opinions!! I would be interested to see what they can do with it, special effects wise, but in ten years I'll be the old Jackass that says "I prefer the original" because that's how you age properly.

(I have to agree, that does sound like a marvelous way to grow older.)

Q - Is there any character you would recast with a different actor/actress?
A - Yes, of course. I'd play Harry Potter himself so I can be #loaded and not have to worry about affording food and my car payment.

(Personally, this writer, would prefer to play Dumbledore. I could definitely pull off a long white beard. The mere thought had me stroking this imaginary beard the rest of the interview.)

Q - On a scale of 1-10, how awesome is Sharknado?
A - Please insert this gif I DONT CARE HOW MANY TIMES THIS JOKE IS USED

(Finally, a dude who knew the awesomeness of Sharknado. I think I'm falling in love.)

Q - Do you think Diagon Alley would survive a Sharknado attack?
A - This is a crossover series I can get behind. Can you imagine the marketing ideas if they'd merge HP with Sharknado?

Q - What is your favorite comedy movie?
A - This really stupid movie from 2001 called 'Rat Race'. It's a movie about this group of random strangers getting chosen to race to a duffel bag of cash and hilarity ensues. WATCH IT, EVERYONE!

(His shout almost shocked me out of my chair. I've never watched that movie before but now I'm sure to check it out.)

Q - Horror Movies, are they worth watching?
A - Yes? If you aren't watching a horror movie at least weekly then wtf are you doing with your life? Live a little.

(Tyler seemed honestly baffled that people wouldn't watch horror movies.)

Q - Modern Movies or Classics?
A - Oh no, Both? I live for the modern movies but the campiness of traditional classics! Whatever happened to Baby Jane? The Wizard of Oz?? MOMMIE DEAREST? Also, I could really get into a whole spiel about how there's no such thing as "modern" and "classics" because of the ever evolving Hollywood screenplay and the fact that there's no definitive line or year where movies before or after are considered the mainstream "modern"/"classic" genre.

(Just as I thought he stopped, Tyler just had a few more gems of wisdom to impart.)

A - Ask me about queer movies/cult classics, those are much more fun to rant about. I also want to end the article with an advert for Sharknado 5.

All in all, the interview went exceedingly well. Unfortunately, I did not have time to ask him about queer movies or cult classics, but will definitely be picking his brain in the future. I also further endorse Sharknado 5. In fact, all Sharknado's are wonderful movies. Hopefully you all enjoyed this very enlightening interview. Until next time, enjoy!
