Hello my fellow snakes! Boy, have I gone on an adventure to bring you all this month's Chatting with! I didn't think I'd be able to get approval in time to bring you guys this article.
You're probably wondering: Serenity, what in the world did you need approval for when it comes to the Chatting with column?
Well friends, if you weren't aware this month's topic is that of the 1920's. Now. I may be old... but I'm not THAT old to have lived during the time, and yes, many wizards that lived during that time are still with us today, but...
I wanted to speak to someone first hand while there! So, I, Serenity Black, asked the Ministry (who did NOT destroy all Time-Turners) if I could temporarily, with the aid of our Headmaster, of course, use a Time Turner to travel to the 1920's (1926 to be exact) and then to New York, to speak with none other than, Queenie Goldstein! Who better to speak to from our wizarding community with a great sense of style and music taste?
Here's our meeting!
We had to travel to New York the old fashioned way... by ship. It was a long journey from England! I was all too excited to finally step foot on dry land when we reached New York. We told MACUSA our business here was strictly educational. We wanted to compare the dealings and working with MACUSA to that of the MoM. I asked to interview Queenie. Luckily, my skills in Occlumency are unmatched, so hiding the truth from her was easy.
I met her at her desk in the Wand Permit Office to conduct the interview.
Serenity Black: Madam Goldstein, I just want to say it is an honor to meet you and I'm thankful for you meeting with me today. I've already had a ton of boring interviews with others regarding the MACUSA dealings, and was hoping we could have a more fun chat?Queenie Goldstein: It's Queenie, Sugar. No need to be so formal. I don't mind at all! It'll take me away from some of this boring work. I hope you're enjoying your visit to our magnificent city?
SB: Thank you! I am. It's definitely different than home. I've never seen people so lively. Not that back in London we aren't lively, but it's just different here. The clothing, the music, even the transportation is different. Speaking of the clothing, I absolutely love your style!
QG: Thanks, darling! I make all my own clothes. I've gotten really good at transfiguration. Just the other day, I transfigured my clothes into a dress to go to our local speakeasy, the Blind Pig. Have you had a chance to go to a speakeasy yet? If you haven't, you must before you leave! The music, the people... I think you would find it exciting.
SB: I would love to see one firsthand. What type of music do they play at those?
QG: My favorite kind, Jazz! But there is this No-Maj singing troupe, I saw not too long ago, named Fred Baille & Co. They were a treat!
SB: It does seem like an amazing time for music and freedom.
QG: It is. I mean, don't get me wrong Sugar, we still have a lot of fighting to do for our rights and the rights of No-Majs. But, i feel like we are getting a small glimpse of how great it would all be one day.
SB: (At this time, I knew I should wrap it up before I let anything about the future slip). I think that's all I have for you, Queenie. Thanks again for speaking with me.
QB: Anytime doll! I hope you enjoy the rest of your visit.
I'll not bore you with the details on our trip back to London and then back to 2020, let me tell you it was an enlightening visit and it was a pleasure being able to talk to Queenie!
Until next time, this is Serenity Black signing off!
