Spirit Animals: Camouflage

By Desiree Snow

Forget the fancy props and high-tech gadgets. Mother nature has come up with the most ingenious kind of smokes and mirrors trick. And she didn't even have to wave a wand!

That's right, camouflage! Animals and plants alike have been blessed with the natural ability to blend with their environment. Just take a look at these awesome creatures:

Did you see them? Took me a while to spot them too. These creatures are so fantastic, I'm sure even Newt himself would have wanted to study them. Magical or not. Just look at them! I would have probably sat on the log-looking gecko once or twice during camping. And the stone fish? Merlin's beard, if I saw one of those while swimming... I'd stay away from beaches. Forever.

And that leads me to this issue's cover on Spirit Animals: Geckos and Polar Bears.

GECKO

A few years ago, you would probably have been less than thrilled to find that your spirit animal was a Gecko. But thanks to Tangled's oh -so-lovable Pascal, we welcome the idea with open arms. At least, I do.

Gecko's are amazing creatures. They have the natural ability to blend in with their surroundings. And here's something you probably didn't know about them, they don't see the color that they have to change into with their eyes. They use their skin to tell them what color they have to change into.

Despite this unique ability to blend in, gecko's are actually always itching to find a new place to be in. They can never stay still in one place and would often be seen moving around a lot trying to find that perfect spot. Similar to the Gecko, people who have this creature as their spirit animal are also searching for their "sweet spot". They have a natural talent to be able to adapt to any environment or group of people they may be thrown into.

But, like the gecko, they are also very good at hiding. And by hiding, I mean hiding their insecurities. People with the gecko spirit animal's most common flaw is their inability to finish any project they start. They are to eager to finish, to reach the ending. If something takes too long, they would just give up and move on.

If you ever see a gecko, it is probably a sign that you must detach from your current situation. Sometimes, some of us find it hard to see that there really is no end or solution to a problem. And that the best thing to do would be to move on.

POLAR BEARS

Quite a huge jump, both in size and species, I know. But bear with me.

You're probably asking yourself, how can a large animal like that ever be able to camouflage themselves? Simple really, they are white and everything around them is white. All they have to do is crouch down, wait for the snow to cover them up a bit more, and then voila! They're invisible.

People who have polar bears as their spirit animal are often very powerful yet playful. They are very aware of their strength but they also often feel that they are obligated to use this advantage to defend and provide for the people around them.

If you ever encounter a polar bear, their message is the exact opposite of that given by a gecko. Polar bears are signs for you to persist and persevere, no matter how difficult the challenge might be.

So whether you're a gecko or polar bear, you go out there and deal with whatever problems come your way. And if that doesn't work, you can always try hitting it with a frying pan.

Till next time!
