This month I've decided to mix things up a bit, literally. I've sent my house elves away to help my great-great aunt, so now I'm stuck doing all the cooking for my husband and I. I don't know why he thought it would be great to suggest such an idea. From school he knows that I, Sophie Winters, did not do well at all in Cooking With Magic. He had been my cursed cooking partner!
Anyways, I'm supposed to figure out how to make all of the meals for three whole days! Preposterous! I'm going through the family cookbook, that hasn't been used in ages. I certainly haven't a use for it. Well, until now.
Oh, look at what I've found! This ought to be good. There's one recipe for a 'Classic Family Shepherd's Pie', and there is a lot of, um, interesting commentary. Again, this ought to be good. I can just imagine it now. It was his idea to send the elves away. His. There should be consequences.
Classic Family Shepherd's Pie
Ingredients
-About a few servings of corn
-Perhaps some butter
-Chopped onion
-Ground beef
-Clove of garlic
-A few pinches of flour
-A swish of broth
-Dried tomatoes (Who'd want them dried, yuck!)
-Thyme and Rosemary (How homy sounding.)
-Your choice of sauce to add flavour
-Potatoes
-Cheddar cheese (How unsophisticated and low. We ought to have something more expensive, really.)
-Seasonings of your choice (For the potatoes.)
First, you'll need your wand arm at the ready. These ingredients could be deadly; this is a muggle-like recipe, after all. If you've made it this far you should know all of your charms and spells to make it through the horrible labour of cooking.
-Boil the corn.
-Chop the onions (Make sure not to cry!)
-Let the butter melt in a pan. Saute the onions. (What does that even mean?)
-Add the beef and chop.
-Basically add everything else! (Except for the rosemary, add that next.)
-Whilst doing this the potatoes should be cooked seperately.
Once all of this done, somehow transfer this to the casserole dish and smooth the potatoes on top.
Bake this for 20 minutes at a temperature of about 176 Celsius.
*Note: this was extremely difficult.
**Note: it works well to add your favorite 'special' ingredient, such as a poison or charming works as well-only if you have a debt to settle. Just make sure not to eat it as well.
Well, this has not been at all helpful. I should take that back, the second note was quite helpful. Maybe I'll look through this cookbook more for some extra tips and tricks. I do have a full three days to show him why the house elves should never be sent away again. Well I'll be back! I'm off to give this recipe a go-it can't go too horribly, can it? I'll definitely add something special as was suggested.
Toodles,
Mrs. Sophie Winters
