Curious Curses
- Theodore Nott

Hello,

Not all of you will remember me. I was always known as the Slytherin with a Death Eater for a father. Which was... most of us to be perfectly honest. So, that doesn't really help.

Following the war, I was one of the few Slytherins who returned to Hogwarts. For most of my life, I had been in my father's shadow and I wanted to spread my wings. I needed to push myself. I graduated with 6 N.E.W.Ts and became a Curse Breaker. Over the course of my career, I've been lucky enough to go to some wonderful places and see some fabulous things. Did you know there is an eighth wonder of the ancient world?

Not many people are aware, but Lamanai in northern Belize is home to a devilish curse. We have yet to investigate it, but I am excited to get into the ruins. An experienced colleague told me that the curse can only be seen by those with magical blood. This is something we've been waiting for months - if not years. But we'll have to wait until we have full access. The last thing we need is for Muggles to discover a centuries old magical curse.

For now, we'll have to stick to the more well-known locations. In fact, I write to you from our latest find. Almost 2,000 years ago, the Flavian Amphitheatre, better known as the Colosseum, was built. It's a phenomenal piece of architecture and it's amazing that it's still standing. What you might not know is, that while it's predominately a Muggle structure, you will be able to see some magical flair if you look closely enough. It could even be the reason why it's survived the test of time.

Anyway, back to why we're here. I can't really recall the exact details that led us to the Colosseum, but I do remember a Muggle archaeologist digging around. To be honest, I didn't think they could do that. But that's none of my business. As soon as we heard that something was out of the ordinary, of course, we had to take a look. So, my team and I took a couple of Portkeys as soon as possible. We had to Obliviate the archaeologist and his team but that wasn't too difficult.

Once inside the Colosseum, we got to work as quickly as possible. We didn't want any Muggles stumbling on us while we worked, so we had some colleagues perform some magic (pun unintended). Setting to work, we uncovered a fascinating burial ground. This wasn't any normal burial ground, though. It was obvious we had stumbled on a lovely little secret. From there, our task was easy: we simply had to investigate some more.

The skeletons we found all had some sort of deformity. Be it shrivelled ears, a hand that was backwards, or curled toes. Upon further research, we discovered that these were the remains of Muggle Aristocracy. Even more curious was that they weren't born with these deformities and all of the remains had been affected. We had stumbled upon something we'd been searching for for years. A cursed burial ground!

Anyway, if I'm not careful I'm going to bore you all to death. So, I'll wrap this up now and get back to the investigation. I've still got to file my report.

Until next time,
Theo
