This is the song that doesn't end. Yes, it goes on and on, my friend. Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue singing it forever just because... Oh! Hi! Didn't see you there. Must have been too deep in my thoughts. How are you? Are you going as stir crazy as I am at this point? It certainly feels like I've been trapped at home (aka the SOUP offices, don't ask) for 713 days, oh wait, that's the vault that held the philosopher's stone. It's been at least eight weeks now since my area began to close up everything real tight. Stay-at-home orders followed a bit later, as Texas is run in a different way than most other states... We've slowly begun to open up some of our businesses, but my family prefers to stick to our home and watch this new social experiment before we go on any adventures.
This month I decided to ask a few friends for any fun activities they've found to fill their days while stuck at home. Are you ready for this?
One of my dear friends, Jade, told me a story about her cousin, Hermia Lysander. Hermia has gone utterly insane during quarantine. She has become obsessed and I mean -OBSESSED- with a Muggle fizzy drink called soda. This handy, little charm hasn't been used daily, oh no, it's been used every hour on the hour! My friend said it's a good thing that her cousin is adept with magic as her teeth and stomach have not fully appreciated the carbonated beverage. If you decide to learn this charm during your quarantine, please use it safely, yeah? This spell may be done both verbally or non-verbally if you are skilled enough. It can be used to refill any beverage of your choice whether it be in a cup, a glass, or a fancy goblet. If you really want to have some fun, I recommend taking a page out of Harry Potter's playbook and quietly refilling your brother's glass over and over again. You never know what blackmail he could share if he doesn't have his wits about him. *cough*
This one still has me giggling, weeks later. I was on my way to a Dragon's office here at SOUP HQ and heard a noise coming from inside. It sounded like a lively Muggle tune, Dancing Queen, I think the Dragon said it was later. The music obviously meant that my friend wasn't on an important call or anything, so I barged right in -as we often do here- and I cannot say that I regret my decision. There, in the middle of her office was some guy named High Lander, dancing some sort of jig to the tune. He wasn't exactly on beat however, a bit stiff if you ask me, but it sure was a hilarious thing to walk in on. Apparently, our beloved Dragon was doing some research on her favorite spell, Tarantallegra, and wanted to see how she could adapt it to force different forms of dancing on her unsuspecting victims. Knowing the Dragon as well as I do, I fully expect to be a victim in the coming days...
I hope that I've given you an idea or two that helps you brighten your day just a bit. Both of these spells have such great potential in terms of practical jokes, stress relief, or even just day-to-day human functions. I mean, anything has to be better than how my days have been filled lately. I don't know how many more rounds of 'Guess this Smell' I can take here in the SOUP offices. It feels as if everyone has jumped onto that crazy wagon and used this spell on me. You don't even want to know the things I've had to smell! This handy little spell allows one to place a blindfold or some other device onto their victim, thus suppressing their sense of sight. I suppose I'm just thankful that it's been a test for my sense of smell and not taste... Please don't give them any ideas!
Why don't you ponder that for a bit and I'll see you back here next month, with the latest episode of Magical Musings?
