My inspiration, as of late, is no longer the beach waves that crash against the rocks. It is the four canvas walls that surround me. Many of you may have felt a tug on your creativity due to the current circumstances that expand across the globe. In the morning, it feels as if all your creative juices have been left on your pillow the moment your eyes awaken from a dream. Well, I'm here to tell you that it does not have to feel that way!
Creativity is not something that comes to you once every full moon. Your creativity never leaves you. We choose to keep it hidden. It's time you summoned your creative thoughts and allowed them to paint you a picture. A great example of someone who, in somewhat similar circumstances, summoned their creativity in moments of need was Vicent Van Gogh. It is said he spent one year at the Saint-Rémy de Provence, an asylum in France, Van Gogh painted beautiful creations. Some of which you may be familiar with!
Art, as you may know, is a form of expression. This medium has allowed many artists to bring their thoughts to life. Although, in some cases, these thoughts are not all from positive sources. On occasion, the source is a person's inner battle with something they are unsure of how to face. Such was the case with Van Gogh. He utilized painting as a way to battle his inner demons. It was doing so that allowed him to create masterpieces.
I'm sure many of you are familiar with his creation of Starry Night, which is considered his magnum opus. This well-known painting was created during the day when the stars were not present and the moon was not out. It was painted from memory. Starry Night depicts the view that Van Gogh saw every night from his window at Saint-Rémy de Provence. This work now resides at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It has been there since 1941.

Now, just because we also find ourselves indoors a lot does not mean that you need to create your own masterful creation. Use this time to take care of yourself. And, should this time allow, channel the creativity you've hidden. Summon it from the depths of your mind, it's still there. Don't force yourself to create, just let your fingers do the talking on the canvas. Who knows, you might find yourself painting something completely different than what you expected.
Thank you for tuning in to this month's art column, I hope to see you next time.
