Power of a Smile

by Desiree

Ah! June 15, a wonderful day indeed. It's probably the most important day of the year, next to Christmas, of course. Why is June 15 so special? Because it's my birthday!!

Oh, and it's also the day where everyone celebrates the power of a smile. That's right; June 15 is the official day of celebrating smiles. So how does one celebrate this rather unusual holiday? By smiling and spreading good cheer!

Now go out there, and share your smile with those around you. Try not to be creepy about it, though. I mean, we all have this big teethy grin that we make when someone wants to take our picture, right? And I don't know about you, but that kind of smile always freaks me out. We want our smiles to cause the birds to sing and make the sun shine brighter!

So how do we achieve this kind of smile? An answer to this problem would be to practice the Duchenne smile. The Duchenne smile is the kind of smile we make when we are genuinely happy. It's the kind of smile that makes our cheeks bunch up and puts a twinkle in our eyes. This smile is very contagious, and if you wear this kind of smile, people around you wouldn't be able to help smiling back.

In order to do the Duchenne smile, simply imagine your happiest moments or memories. Soon you'll find yourself grinning from ear to ear. And once you have found your Duchenne smile, go out there and spread the happy!

Until next time! - Desiree
