Chatting With...
By Nicole
Ah. The end of yet another school term, and a successful one at that! I think that most people are excited for the summer holidays, though I don't think everyone would feel that way. I know that I'm happy to some extent (because let's face it, Slytherin is determined to win the House Cup), but also sad because I'll miss some of my friends. I can imagine that other students (mainly the Ravenclaws) aren't as happy as we Snakes are, but they'll have to get over it and recognize how awesome we are. Even though it's the end of term and classes are almost over, I still had work to do. SOUP was certainly not going to end at the end of term, so I had to figure out who to interview. Luckily, some of my fellow SOUP staffers helped to come up with an idea. Why not interview Adam, the Slytherin Admin? He's like a permanent Head of House and has an important role, so he must have some commentary and an opinion on the end of term, right?
I was lucky enough to snag him away from his busy schedule to ask him a few questions. We were walking towards the Great Hall for the interview, because who doesn't like food? I know I at least needed some of my coffee to keep me on my toes.
“What are your thoughts on the end of the term?” I had decided an easy question should go first.
“I'm sad that it's over. The outgoing staff did a fantastic job. Their site-wide was a huge success, and they made more money for the Slytherin Account through their restock than I thought was possible. Somewhere in the realm of 3.5 million galleons. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is.
But I'm also happy to get new blood and new face in the staff room. I'm just glad elections are over; now we can go back to being a unified house, hopefully. ” While he was giving his very in depth answer, I could tell that he was extremely proud of his house. And so his evident pride created my next question. “How proud are you to be the admin for Slytherin? What makes you like this house so much?”
“So proud. I just love all of the people. Everything they do, how hard they work for this house.
This past term has been a great example of what Slytherins can do when they put their minds to it: we can accomplish anything, as long as we're working together. What's so great about Slytherin is that, though we might fight at times, in the end, I think we all really do feel like a family. At least, that's how it feels to me.” And yet another long answer that he was able to showcase Slytherin's success. After that question, we were both taking a few sips from our drinks when an unexpected Head of House came to us (probably overhearing our conversation, or at least me because I talk loudly). It was McGonagall. It sure was a surprise to us when she sat down next to us.
“I couldn't help but to hear,” she spoke, taking a break to sip her tea, looking right at me, “that you two are discussing the term.”
Boy, was her presence making me a bit nervous. I've never spoken to her and this was unexpected to happen during an interview. Thanks to my quick thinking, I decided to not only interview Adam, but also Professor McGonagall. It could only add to the value of the interview, right?
“Do either of you have a favorite memory from the past term?” I asked, deciding that we should have some fun with the interview.
“Oh gosh. xD Probably the dueling team. I love dueling, it's so much fun. And Alisyn makes it a great sport for Slytherins to play. I just love writing the RPs and interacting with everyone's characters. The best moment was when my character, Silvanus, kissed Alisyn's character, Nate, for the first time. I melted inside.” Adam's answer had to be the best one ever, and I couldn't help but to giggle at the thought. Although McGonagall didn't laugh along, I think I could see some sort of amusement on her face.
“Well, I don't have anything as exciting as that from the past term, but I could share one from a previous term?” Sure, sure, go ahead, I thought to myself, getting excited at what stories she might have from her long amount of time at Hogwarts. And I didn't even need to answer her since she went right ahead and continued to speak. “The best end of term story I have is from when the Weasleys attended Hogwarts. By Weasleys, I mean the twins. All of the chaos that they created was certainly something to be entertained by...” Her voice trailed off, obviously reminiscing.
There was a pause in the interview. Was I supposed to interrupt her thoughts or would that be too rude? Or was I supposed to just continue interviewing Adam? I looked over at him and it looked like he was having the same thoughts of I.
“Oh dears, I'm sorry, but I think that's enough for today. I've got to get back to my office.” Surprisingly, McGonagall was the one to interrupt my thoughts as she stood up from the table and walk away.
“Well,” I said, collecting my thoughts, “since she mentioned it, what do you think about Fred and George Weasley's chaos when they left Hogwarts? And what do you think of the word ‘rebellion'?”
“Every time I read or watch that scene, I get chills and goosebumps. I love it so much! It's totally epic. They're superheroes in book five; it's part of the reason that the Order of the Phoenix is my favourite of the seven. And as for rebellion. Craziness. Lots of angry people and lots of scared people.” I couldn't help but to agree with him, shaking my head. That scene was very epic.
“So, going along with the chaos and everything, o you like pranks? If so, what's your favorite?”
“Oh no. I don't. I can't stand them. Thankfully, I'm immune to most of them, whether because I have the items that block them, or because I'm a Staff Member. I can still be acid-popped though, as Lee demonstrated for me the other day. My least favourite though is the Cheering Charm. If I'm grumpy, let me stay grumpy!” This was a bit surprising!
“Really, wow. I think pranks are fun as long as they aren't overused, then it just gets annoying.” So, basically, everyone, you might not want to try to prank Adam.
“Alright, only a couple more questions and then we're done!” Wasn't this becoming one of the longest interviews ever? “Do you think there should be a sort of party when the term is officially over?”“The school term, you mean? Absolutely. Fingers crossed for a Slytherin victory, but I think we'll make it. I hope so, anyway! I'm so excited and proud. I can't even.” I was definitely in agreement with him. Slytherin definitely deserves to win.
I laughed slightly at the end of his answer. He couldn't even continue his sentence because of the thought of winning and being so excited. “So, if you were a student at Hogwarts at this party, how would you celebrate?”
“Lots and lots of butterbeer. Maybe some firewhiskey.” As the interview ended, I couldn't help but to agree with Adam. Butterbeer (and maybe some firewhiskey, shhhh) sounded like a great way to end the term.
Finishing my coffee, I stood up and parted ways with Adam. I was heading right for the SOUP HQ, excited to put everything together for the interview and to start brainstorming for the next one, wondering what else might come my way.
