Let's be honest, the Slytherin role models we have from Harry's years at school suck. Let's start with the dumber than rocks Crabbe and Goyle. I'd like to know how they even managed to pass their OWLs to continue on with their Hogwarts education.
Then we have Draco Malfoy, an entitled brat whose father will likely hear about this article. Seriously Draco, get some new lines! No one is intimidated by that threat no matter how much you like it.
I don't think I need to talk to you about the monster that is Tom Marvolo Riddle.
And don't get me started on Severus Snape! Sure he might have been on the right side of the war, but that doesn't mean much when he is a horrible excuse for a human being. He only changed sides because he was obsessed with Lily Evans and got her killed. And let's not forget how Neville Longbottom's boggart was Snape. The boy who was thrown out of a window by his uncle, who saw his parents every year after they were tortured into insanity by Death Eaters, and his biggest fear was Snape. That says a lot about the type of person he is.
Now you may be wondering why I am going on about those people when the theme is Slytherin Pride. Well those are the major faces of Slytherin that everyone remembers, but Slytherin is far more than just those faces.
Why do we forget about Regulus Black? Regulus Black, who sacrificed himself at 18 to try to take down Voldemort when he learned what a monster he was. We celebrate Harry for the same action and yes for him it was at least a successful action, but does that make Regulus any less of a hero because his attempt failed?
What about Andromeda Tonks? Her family tried to make her believe that she was better than Muggles and Muggleborns, and when it came to where she had to choose between the Muggleborn she loved and her family? She chose the man she loved and left them behind.
Slytherins have a lot to offer. Why are we celebrating the ones who only cared about themselves instead of the ones who actually did a good thing? We have so much more to offer then the stereotypical evil characters. We are cunning and ambitious. Some of the best people I know in my life only got where they are because of their ambition and that is awesome.
Let's give up a cheer for the overlooked Slytherins. There are too many of us because people see what they want to see.
For the raffle, here are two questions for you to answer:
Question 1 - What has been one Ranting and Raving that you enjoyed?
Question 2 - Which Slytherin within this article do you think got the short end of the wand?
