I was so psyched when I heard that this month's theme was the Chamber of Secrets book. Ironically, it's my favorite out of the entire series, so this worked out perfectly for me. Though I'll admit, I sat stumped for a while on what to write; there's just too much I love. However, I couldn't deny the one thing that I felt made this book stick out so much from the rest: the noteworthy creatures. So in my usual fashion, I decided to write an article to determine which creatures would make for an unparalleled pet. Although, there were a handful of different creatures introduced in this book, I decided to pick the four most important ones: Lockhart's Cornish pixies, Salazar Slytherin's basilisk, Hagrid's acromantula, and Dumbledore's phoenix.
So, who to begin with? Let's start with my personal favorite: Lockhart's Cornish pixies. These blue little buggers make the perfect pet if you're looking for a devilish little thing to complement your feisty personality. Want to get back at that annoying Gryffindor who keeps throwing paper wads at the back of your head in class? Just go ahead and set your little blue friend loose, sit back, and enjoy as the mayhem unfolds before your very eyes. If you're lucky, with its incredible strength , it could give that Gryffindor the public wedgie they rightfully deserve.
Next, we'll follow that up with my personal least favorite: Hagrid's acromantula, Aragog. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a ginormous fear of those nasty little things called spiders, but the creatures we're talking about are straight from my absolute nightmares. Imagine a spider the size of a car, chasing after you with its furry legs, flexing it's incisors, and staring at you like you're a gourmet meal. No thank you. But I suppose if your enemy has a fear of these atrocious creatures like me, this would be the perfect pet for you. Take your acromantula on a walk by that certain person's dorm, and let it do what it was made to do. On a side note though, make sure this individual does not reside in my dorm, because if you let that thing into my room while I'm sleeping, and I happen to make it out alive, rest assured I will be coming for you.
Up next, Dumbledore's oh-so-brave phoenix, Faux. This creature is the poster-child of birds; like have you seen it's brilliantly pigmented feathers? I'd kill to have pigmented hair like that. These creatures are the perfect pet if you're looking for loyalty above all else. Although, they typically aren't aggressive, and won't per se, fight for you, they do have tears with magical healing abilities that can help heal your wounds after you get beat up from being outnumbered by a group of cranky, not-so-nice Ravenclaws. So fight without worry, because you, my friend, have a first aid kit in the shape of a phoenix waiting on your beck and call.
Saving the best for last: Salazar Slytherin's basilisk. If you really want to be the biggest, baddest, kid on the playground, this is the pet of choice for you. Not only can you instill fear upon your enemies, you can literally make them look down at your feet, because if they try to look at you, they might just come face to face with those deadly yellow eyes. However, here's the catch: you better be the heir of Slytherin, and you better know how to speak parseltongue. If you don't, you might just be your pet's next victim.
Hope you all enjoyed this month's article. Happy choosing!
