Crafty Corner
By Sylvie DeLorn
When the topic of any discussion is brought to the point of space and anything outside of our planet's atmosphere, what's the first thing that pops into everyone's mind? That's right, the moon and stars!
That's why, this month, we'll be looking into the making of a star. Unfortunately, it seems that the spells to repeat the official formation of a star haven't been determined, or at least not officially released to the general public. So we shall dip into the muggle art of paper folding, or origami.
Before we begin, you're going to want five sheets of square paper, all the same size.
If you wish to use coloured paper, then make sure that for the first step of this, the coloured side you wish to use is not facing you.
If the paper that you have around isn't square, all you have to do is take one corner of the page and fold it to the opposite side (the side not directly connected to that corner) and then cut off the rest of the page that doesn't include the folded section.
If you have to do this, then go ahead and skip step one.
I) With your square sheet of paper, fold it in half diagonally. This should turn the square into a triangle. Then unfold.
II) Fold both the edges towards the center, make sure they don't overlap, and then unfold again.
III) Take the bottom corner of the page and bring it to the first crease on the left of it. Then carefully crease until you reach the second fold line and stop there.
IV) Bring the fold that you just stopped at down so it is on top of the fold you've just made, then crease. This should be a repeat of the right fold you made in step two.
V) Repeat the left fold that you made in step two and then flip the paper over.
VI) Fold the extending section backwards so both sides of the middle crease are mirror images of each other.
VII) Fold along the corners of the lower section before unfolding that lower part.
VIII) Flip the piece over again, and fold directly in half again, this should be along the initial fold made in step one.
IX) Repeat these steps for the next four pieces if you haven't done that already.
Now with all the pieces folded we can begin on linking them together to make a star.
Make sure that all the pieces you're working with are with the fold openings facing you.
I) Slide the right section of the tail in piece one underneath the right flap (the one without the tail) of piece two. Both creases should line up with one another.
II) Slightly unfold the right flap on piece two and slide the left section of piece one inside of it. Then re-crease the folds to ensure that they stay in place.
III) Repeat this process with the rest of the pieces, adding onto the chain until you've formed the star.
With that, you have a beautiful star of your own that you can hang from a ceiling or ceiling fan for all to see, and I bid you a farewell.
Happy crafting.
