Skin Care Rave
By Lia
Ah! The end of term is here and so are the summer holidays. I don't know about you lot but I am beyond excited to throw off this dark and heavy robe for some shorts and swim suits and enjoy the summer sun. As much as I love our green and silver robes, I must admit it gets a little annoying wearing them all school term long.
Anyways, I know most of you are heading home for the summer or better, you're going off to some luxurious island under the wonderful sun and you are going to get some color in your cheeks. But hold that thought for one moment because there are some important things you need to know before you abandon Hogwarts for the next couple of months for sandy toes and sun kissed skin: skin care.
I know, I know, you have probably hear this spiel a million and one times from your mother and father but I cannot emphasize the importance of proper skin care during the summer holidays to avoid sunburns and skin cancer. Below, I have compiled a small, doable list of ways in which you can safely enjoy the summer sun without the pain and suffering later:
1. You might think that this is stupid but I just have to say it: You should stay out of the sun during the peak hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This is the time of day, mostly during the summer months, that the sun is at it's peak and the rays are most harmful to your skin. I know you won't listen to me because this is the best time to be outside but it's preventative measures I am trying to teach.
2. This one is pretty simple: Cover up. Yes, this means hats, sunglasses, and long-sleeved clothes. I know, the summer is hot and you're not going to want to cover up but it's your skin. Do you want to look like Leatherface when you're 30? I don't think so.
3. Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! The most important one on the list. For fair complexion, an SPF 45+ sunscreen would work best without worrying about reapplication for a couple of hours. Now, if you're going to be sweating or will be in the water, you should be reapplying every couple of hours as directed on the bottle. You should apply it EVERYWHERE from your scalp to your ears to your toes. Sunscreen people!
Three easy steps and you'll not only have beautiful skin, but you will also be preventing your skin from damage from the sun.
Well, I am off to my favorite summer to spot, Miami Beach, Florida! See you all at the beginning of next term!
