Chatting With...

Boy, do I have a surprise for you. This whole interview even surprises myself! I cannot believe what happened the other day. I guess I should tell you, right? Well, I was in the library trying to brainstorm ideas for SOUP when a little note flew into my lap. Mysterious, right? I opened it to find a place and time sprawled hurriedly on the paper; the owl tower at 10 PM. Very, very mysterious. I looked up to find that I was the only one around.
Of course I had to go! I figured it could make for an interesting story to tell my friends or something. Plus, I was curious as to who would want to meet in the owl tower. I got to the owl tower early (9:54, according to my watch). I could smell the tons of owl poop as I walked up the stairs; someone should really get to cleaning it up at least a little bit. I really hoped that whoever wanted to meet me here wouldn't be needing much of mine time. I didn't know how much of the nasty odor I could take. I think I might have even started to feel lightheaded at one point.
From the moonlight that was shining through the tower's window, I saw a head of red hair. It couldn't be, I thought, is that Ron the Weasel?
And I had been right! I knew I had a good eye, even in the darkness with only the moon for help. Being the silly witch that I am, I forgot about using my wand for light or even a lantern!
I'll spare you the boring details, but we had decided to meet again. This time somewhere not so repulsive. Really, a Slytherin cannot be seen in the owl tower at odd times, especially with one of those Lions!
Now for the good part, the final meeting. I had been shocked when he wanted an interview with SOUP. I guess that means the publication is popular in the other houses, right? Very, very good. Who am I to deny someone an interview? I decided it would be interesting to see how ignorant a lion would be. I mean, I know we're supposed to be teammates and all for the Inter-House Competition, but I've never been one to play nice. Where's the fun in that?
I was sitting in one of those alcoves of a corridor that was hardly ever used because the unruly staircases barely come this way. I really don't understand why, but that's Hogwarts for you. I was the one to choose the meeting place, of course, and I somewhat doubted that the Gryffindor would show up.
But he surprised me. He showed up quietly and sat down, a look of determination on his face. I just stared at him. It was weird. Besides the owl tower night, I had never had a conversation with him. I was glad when he started talking because I wasn't sure what to interview him on. I mean, I wasn't the one to ask for an interview.
"I want you to understand why I'm even doing this interview with someone like you. Everyone should know it's Harry's birthday, even you Slytherins. It's an important thing!" He told me this first. Someone was certainly a bit cranky.
"Well, I don't think it matters that much, but if we're only going to talk about his birthday then this interview is over. Readers don't want something like that for an interview." Seriously, I would've let you down if that was going to be it. "So tell me about yourself. Do you like being Harry Potter's friend?"
"Yeah, he's a good one," he paused, "but sometimes things get to me. I mean, he's so popular! And he gets so busy. He's a bloody good seeker and so there's Quidditch practice. We make plans to hang out during the weekend and then he forgets or sleeps and won't wake up."
Ron sure cracked easily and just started with the truth! "Is that all that irritates you? Is there more?"
"Of course there's more! How wouldn't there be? He's started to become like Hermione and complain about my eating. He's my best friend, but lately it's not been so well as you can tell. That's why I wanted this interview. Thought it'd be a good way to say I'm still here." "Why are you still his friend if all of this happens? I'm sure you could make better ones over here, that you know, don't get so busy? Or at least know how to handle it. And you've got too much red, with your hair and all anyways." There could never be too many Slytherins in the world, don't you agree?
"Hey now. I'm not going to stop being his friend just because of this. After this interview I'm sure he'll see what's wrong and go back to being the old Harry," Ron's face had turned a little red at my prodding, "Plus, I wouldn't want to be trapped in those dungeons. No way." "At least I offered! Though I guess we're all sort of together as far as houses go though.
Slythindor; I hope you Gryffindors are ready to pull your weight in the competition. What part are you excited for?"
"The food, of course! It'll be great, especially the last one when the team wins." Does this guy think about food a lot? I've seen him stuffing his face a lot, at least. "I guess food is pretty tasty around here. Are you participating in any of the events going on?" "Yeah, the chats and small things like that. They're pretty good and an easy way to help the team out since I'm not the best at the events."
"Right. That makes sense, actually. Is there anything else you want to say before this ends? I mean, I do have other things to do." I faked a yawn. How long was I expected to be around the Gryffindor?
"Sure, sure. We're done in a moment. I've got a couple things to do too, for Harry's birthday. Just, everyone can say happy birthday, I guess. Maybe give him a break? He's too busy." So, you heard it here first. Ronald Weasley hasn't had the most pleasant experience being the Boy Who Lived's best friend. Also, support Team Slythindor! I know, you probably don't want to be stuck with the lions, but there might be some hidden advantages, like finding some of them to convert. You all can help me with that, right?
