Astoria Greengrass sighed as she sat on the plush carpet of her bedroom. She was recovering after another wave of weakness, a warm smile on her lips as she saw the get well soon card from 3-year-old Scorpius, covered in glitter. She'd never loved the stuff until she'd been around 15-years-old. Of course, that was the time when the Second Wizarding War was at its peak and she was just trying to survive at Hogwarts.
Daphne had given her a ball of floating sparkles and told her that as long as the disco ball remained shining brightly and levitating, there was hope. She knew that probably wasn't true but, in those cruel times, anything that gave her a sense of optimism was a gift. She still had that ball, to this day, and it was still effervescent, catching the light of the sun... almost capturing it, locking it into the hovering shimmeriness. She watched it, sighing softly. It had got her through the darkest times and now she hoped that it would get her through this as well.>
The night had soon come slinking in and Astoria had fallen asleep in her chair. Daphne had arrived home to find Draco had gone out and both Scorpius and Astoria were asleep. The elder Greengrass chuckled softly as she decided to cover her sister in a unicorn blanket and stoke the fire more. Astoria had always loved unicorns and the blanket was covered in the magical creatures. Daphne had been surprised that her sister had become attached to it as a child but she'd happily handed it over to her sister.
The next morning Astoria woke up and instantly looked towards the ball. The twinkling flakes were still glowing and floating, making her smile as she noticed the blanket over her. Feeling refreshed, she rose from her chair and headed downstairs, a little unsteady on her feet as she kept the blanket around her shoulders, appearing in the kitchen... much to the surprise of Scorpius and Draco. She could still see the shiny particles from the card on the table and chuckled softly as Scorpius held out his messy hands.
Draco said that their son had wanted to make her another speckled card and she had to ask if he minded their son using glitter all the time. Draco said no and he meant it; he knew that the hell confetti meant something to his wife and now it meant something to Scorpius, so he wasn't going to stop it. It was magic... magic that he couldn't make with a wand but with imagination and love. Sitting down next to Scorpius, Astoria began to make pictures using glue and different coloured glitter.
Astoria's love for sparkles had confused Draco at the start but he'd learnt what her special ball symbolised to her. When he'd realised the importance of it, he'd decided to let them have their fun. Glitter brought magic and happiness into Astoria's life and made her smile. That was what mattered the most.
