I don't know about y'all, but I am certainly happy that holiday break time is officially over! It's not that I don't love my family, but all of the traveling, visiting, and the many extreme changes in my schedule have definitely done me in. I'm not sure how I'll ever get back on track! It's now January... 2019. Another year has come and gone. We now have a shiny, new, and very blank year to play with. I say blank because the slate has been wiped clean and it's up to us to decide what we do with this time ahead of us.
I wanted to do something a little different for this month's edition. I've still got a great recipe or two to share with y'all... they just aren't exactly edible. Or rather, they wouldn't be good for your health. Lol. So please, if you choose to use this around any person, or any living thing for that matter, that enjoys putting things in their mouth keep an eye on them, yeah? I had my three children home with me for a few weeks during their school break and I really wish I had thought to look for something like this during that break. We visited family in Northern Ohio and they didn't get to see a single snowflake! They were devastated as it absolutely never snows where we live in the south. Something tells me that they'll still enjoy this recipe on a weekend. xD So let's make some pretend snow! There are several different types, play around with as many as you wish and figure out which one is YOUR favorite!
Pretend Snow
All credit goes to the link above.
Our first type of snow will be created using baking soda and shaving cream. It will even stay cool to the touch for you and has a powdery feel to it. Simply pour one cup of baking soda into a bowl and add in the shaving cream at a slow pace until the snow is at your preferred consistency.
Or, if you would prefer snow that is cool to the touch but a bit more wet and less like powder you can try using conditioner instead of shaving cream. For this one you would mix 2 1/2 cups of baking soda with 1/2 cup of a white conditioner (yes, the stuff you put in your hair!).
If you prefer fake snow that isn't cold, try using cornstarch instead of baking soda with some shaving cream. Mix 1 cup of cornstarch with some shaving cream, again until it is at your preferred consistency. This type will be powdery still, but not cold and it will also be more crumb-like.
Finally, if you want your fake snow to be better able to be molded into shapes or balls (though not for nearly as long as real snow), you can try mixing cornstarch with a white lotion. Simply mix 1 cup of cornstarch with the lotion until it is at your preferred consistency. The snow will be the same color as the lotion, so if you choose a pink lotion, for example, your snow will not be white but rather pink.
There are plenty more recipes out there, one only has to look! I personally find it fascinating to see how the Muggles manage to bring bit of magic into their lives using science. I hope y'all don't mind the short deviation from food to fake snow this month, never fear, I shall be back with something edible next time.
