Dropping by for a visit? I'm so glad to have you today. I must say that you are in for a treat! Let's take a walk in a Winter Wonderland! There have been many events and I hope they were enjoyed and not to stressful!
How do our Legends spend their winter?
Draco, his family hosts a Winter Ball each year. It's probably, really, a gathering for a very.... especially "dark" birthday. Lights of black and emerald cascading across the gardens of the Manor. Snow falling all around. Little Death Eater snowwizards placed meticulously around. Can't have a single one out of place! What would the Dark Lord think?
Salazar, probably exhausted from his Claus duties, sitting in a regal armchair relaxing. After all his hard work he deserves it. I know he brought myself some amazing gifts.
Severus, brewing potions. Staying away from the children running amok with new pranks freshly purchased from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. I've not seen him around Hogwarts lately. I have heard Spinner's End mentioned a few times this winter.
The House Ghosts, I secretly wonder what they do. Exquisite parties of lavish themes? Maybe that's why we hear strange noises at night? Well, I hope they have the time of their lives! They do so much for us during the year, they deserve it.
Now, at SOUP, some of us have our own Winter Wonderland traditions.
Winter brings so many fun activities we can only do this time of year. Sledding, probably the most popular. I don't think skiing at Hogwarts is a good idea. Filch would have none of that on his watch. Ice skating is one of the most joyous ones. If you can skate that is. The Black Lake is lovely for this. Just be sure not to disturb the Giant Squid. Though, I'm sure it loves seeing students flying around on the ice. For him it must be like bird watching, or so I'd think.
At Hogwarts, we are blessed with snow. I know a lot of people around the world may have never seen snow. Though it can be miserable at times, we shouldn't take it for granted. Making snowmen is one fun activity. I, personally, have never made one. Nor have I ever been in a snowball fight. But I didn't grow up where it snowed. Unfortunately, I grew up where once it gets below 65 degrees it might as well be 40 degrees. I know - odd - but that's a cold front. Once I was in snow I was older and lost out on the majesty of it. It's beautiful to look at from a distance, say on television or on a postcard. Maybe a pajama elf visits on Christmas Eve? Fresh, festive pj's to open presents in.
Some people though, the beach is their snow. Sandmen are super fun it make. A sandcastle, Hogwarts of course, is gorgeous in its own right. Playing in the glistening water, a light breeze drifting over the surface. That sounds like heaven to me! I don't have any special winter time activities. Besides trying to stay warm! My family did one special thing. We went to Christmas town, Busch Gardens. Over ten million lights and decorations. It was truly a beautiful sight to behold. Below is a picture I took of one of the prettiest sights there.
