I know that for this issue of SOUP we're focusing on love, this is something I think we definitely need more of. I especially appreciate the direction we've taken on this, familial love. Well, in the spirit of familial love and our dedication to art, this month we will be taking on a similar route here in the art corner. Every month, I ramble on about a specific artist and their beautiful creations. This month, I want us to talk about techniques. I want you all to close your eyes for a moment and think about those days when you were a wee child. Do you recall those extraordinary drawings you would make for your parents? The ones they would place on the fridge or frame because they were so proud of how their child could draw five sticks, one circle and make a person? Ah, when my skills were at their prime...
Anywho, I think sometimes we forget about the importance of having to revisit the techniques we used back then. As we get older, we learn about a famous artist and their incredible skills of bringing life into art and art to life. We focus on how perfect they look and that's our first mistake. The thing about art is that it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, it is the imperfections and the happy mistakes that truly bring beauty upon it. We often tear ourselves down and decide we longer want to pursue art because we think we won't be good enough. Well, I'm here to help you change that. I'm here to tell you that it's about time we start using these older techniques to increase our confidence!
I've recently re-discovered an old technique that I am completely a fan of. What's one art form that kids love? Can someone give me a drumroll? *drumroll* Fingerpainting! Yes, you heard me right. Art is about using your hands. What better way to create art than utilizing your entire hand. Let's allow our fingers to do the creations! Your fingers can be used to create rainbows, flowers, people, even animals! Don't believe me? Let me show you a beautiful picture below of just how incredible this medium can be.
I mean, just look at that beautiful lion! They've created an almost perfect circle with their fingers. They've even given that lion a nose with this skill. I think the greatest thing that we can do is pick up a pencil, or in this case use your fingers, to let your creativity flow. This month, I want to challenge you guys to use this re-discovered medium to create a masterpiece. And let me be clear when I say masterpiece I mean I want to see something imperfect. I want to see something of your creation with flaws. I don't want you to hold yourself back. We've already done enough of that and we're kicking this bad habit away!
Feel free to send me your creations, I would love to see them. In fact, I'd love to feature them on the next issue with your permission of course! So, if you have children or if you have siblings of a young age, encourage them to create this piece of art with you. What better way to bond with your family than by creating a piece of art together that promotes familial love.
Thank you for joining me this month. I hope to see you next month!
