One of my favorite Disney movies owes a lot to the holiday we have been celebrating in this SOUP issue. The Hunchback of Notre Dame certainly gets by on its own. It has amazing music, the characters are complicated and well-developed, and the art is just beautiful. However, a major plot point revolves around the event, "Topsy-Turvy Day". This event is heavily inspired by Mardi Gras. It includes its own version of the Feast of Fools, which in real life falls the day before Mardi Gras. The partying, spectacle, and costume-donning are all inspired by the practices of those participating in Mardi Gras. Even the traditional colors of Mardi Gras (green, gold, and purple) are represented in the clothing of Quasimodo and Clopin. Due to this connection, I have decided that this issue's SOUPerlatives will follow the characters of this great movie. Take a look:
+Hugo, a child at heart: Scorpius Malfoy & snakesnitch43
+Laverne, the mom friend: Narcissa Malfoy & Hannah Abbott
+Victor, the "Renaissance" type: Draco Malfoy & Salazia
+Quasimodo, someone with perseverance: Severus Snape & Nicole Phelps
+Esmeralda, unafraid of toil: Andromeda Tonks & Ninja Kitten
+Clopin, a speaker for the downtrodden: Merlin & paragonWizard
+Djali, loyal to loved ones: Amycus Carrow & SerenityBlack1981
+Phoebus, diligent about set goals: Horace Slughorn & Morgana Malipiero
+Archdeacon, wise user of authority: Regulus Black & Ragna Lokisdottir
If you haven't seen this movie yet, go watch it!
Till next time,
