Letter from the Editors Slytherins

By Nicole & Erikka Slytherin House Members

Yup, you read that correctly. For the holiday season, we decided to do something different. Instead of listening (reading) us blab on and on about something semi-related to the issue's theme, we wanted to hear from YOU. Our House has so many lovely users with different backgrounds, life paths, ambitions, and all of that jazz! Continue reading below to see what fond memories and warm wishes Slytherin (and our Honorary Slytherin) have.

My greatest memory? I simply can't decide. I've had an amazing vacation in Asia with long-forgotten family and creepy-crawlies, such as the cockroaches which were regularly thrown at me by the whirring ceiling-fans during my restless nights. I've learnt to appreciate warm water even more (during the holiday, if I wanted to be ready before midday I had to shower in cold water, which added more sneezing to my allergic reactions to the cats I had to live with). I've learnt how to hold my own in an argument or a fight, physical or verbal (although I prefer to chat it out, really). I've learnt how to take blows and insults. I've learnt how to be confident in football. The greatest thing, I think, is that I've learnt more about myself and my views, and met magnificent people, both on and off HEX.

My wishes? I wish for many things. One thing is for myself to gain House Points to help my House. Another is to become more involved around HEX. I wish to move onto my second year of HEX. I wish for my friendships to strengthen. I wish for our House to win the Cup at the end of the year. Most of all, I wish for everyone I know to have a great life, with no problems but that's kind of difficult, because life's difficult sometimes. We've just got to grit our teeth, and carry on with determination.

Well this isn't a memory per say (I wasn't alive at the time) but my uncle always loves telling the story of why my grandparents never let Matzo Balls be made for the holidays anymore. Apparently, one year, when only a few of my cousins were alive (in other words my mom and her 4 siblings (3 males 1 female) were all adults by this time), my uncles got into a huge food fight. A few of the Matzo Balls ended up getting stuck to the ceiling. That was the last time they ever had them with the holidays. I am sorry that I missed it because the story is always so amusing.

When I was about 13 I was given a gift that changed my life forever. Early morning on christmas day I sat in a ring with my family, it was our tradition to do this when presents were being given out.My turn eventually came and my grandma handed me a small rectangular present, curious I opened it and it was the first Harry Potter book, even more curious I began to read...two days later it was finished! I called my gran to thank her for the marvelous gift she had given me. Alas, she had past away, but the memory of her stays with me every time I pick up that over a decade old book.

I remember the first Hexmas I ever spent here, back in December of 2009. I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced, with all the gift giving and all sorts of festivities that were taking place. (Note: There wasn't even a quarter of the stuff going on back then as there is today, and I still loved it. Hexmas has gotten better and better to the point that it's absolutely amazing!)

I made several new friends during this time, many of whom are gone but a few who remain here (Sisinyous Zerihun, moiser20 and Lorrina, to name a few that are still here). I had already fallen in love with the site by that time, but do believe that Hexmas is the best holiday on here and always will be. We have great staff here, and they just keep coming up with more and more fantastic ideas for us to enjoy. I have seen all the Common Rooms at some point, but still feel that Slytherin has the best one ever! What could be more perfect than being in the best house on the best HP site ever to exist? My answer - Nothing! :)

Being in the Slytherin House for this past little while has been absolutely wonderful! I've met so many wonderful friends in this wonderful House. I'm dreading when my Honorary status goes away, and I'm going to miss all of you dearly <3 I hope all of you have a wonderful New Year, and I wish everyone the best :)

Haha! Thought you got rid of me, right? Wrong! ;)

My warm wishes for the upcoming year revolve around both Slytherin and HEX. I hope that Slytherin becomes an even better community for everyone. We all know we're awesome, so let's be awesome together. I also wish the best for all of my friends and everyone I work with on HEX. Everyone is so great!

And of course, I've got to wish that SOUP dominates all of the HEX Publications! :P
