And Now, Something Completely Different - National Chocolate Covered Anything Day

By Samantha Bradley

I honestly don't know many people who don't love chocolate, and it just makes sense that a day like this would fall within the holiday season. Chocolates have always been a popular gift this time of year, but we are going to a whole new level here. This day is to celebrate all things covered with chocolate, and I know we can all come up with a lot of those things. You have oranges, strawberries, bananas, raisins, donuts, cookies, nuts, waffles, pancakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, all sorts of candy and even ants. (Yes, some people find chocolate covered ants to be a great delicacy, though I have not tried this personally. I suppose I'll just have to take their word on this one, as I confess to being just a bit chicken. And I have absolutely no doubt that there are many more foods that would be much tastier if they were covered in chocolate. Different people have different taste buds, so it might be a good time to experiment. If you love what you created, share it with others. And if you don't wish to create, you still owe it to yourself to purchase some chocolate covered treats of your choosing that you can enjoy. Go ahead, you deserve it!

If you're anything like me, you get inspired easily and have a thirst to learn more. If this is the case, I definitely encourage you to enroll in a truffle making class. Truffle making is a true culinary art, and before long you will be making beautiful and delicious truffles that your friends will love. They make wonderful gifts, and you will save a lot of money by creating them yourself rather than purchasing them. It's always more satisfying to make something yourself. Besides, if you get really good at this you can make them for special occasions like weddings and parties and make a little extra money on the side. This is just one of many good ideas that you can explore!

No one knows who actually came up with this day, but rumor has it that it was either a confectioner or some candy company. This would certainly make sense. Despite the fact that it is called a "National Day", it is interesting to note that no congressional records or presidential proclamations appear to exist which would indicate this as an official title. Apparently, whoever created it decided that it was fitting for all food related holidays be known as "National Days". But who knows for sure, and I don't see how it really matters. It's another excellent excuse to eat chocolate (like we need more of those, right?) National Chocolate Covered Anything Day is celebrated on December 16th every year, so be sure and mark it on your calendar!

I hope this article has inspired you to discover the many joys and pleasures of this day and perhaps to learn something new. Have fun and eat as much chocolate as you wish on this special day, for tomorrow we diet!
