Chatting With...
Nicole
So, I had this very, very elaborate and awesome introduction for an awesome person who I was lucky enough to interview for this issue of SOUP. Unfortunately, Count Fluffula (Fluffy for short), my cat, decided it was his turn to use my desk while I grabbed some peanut butter crackers for a late-night snack. And guess what! He crinkled it all up, laid on it, and drooled on it! The ink was all smudged and I couldn't make out even one word. Not to mention, his white and grey coat was a mess, so I had to go give him a bath before he got ink all over the SOUP HQ! Cats, I tell you. Don't trust them with anything.
However, you can trust this awesome Slytherin. Joe Hunters is quite a friendly person! He enjoys being in the common room a lot and actively promoting our house! It's really no wonder how he came to be November's Heir of Slytherin. I was able to get an interview with him in our cozy common room. Of course, I had my coffee while I had grabbed Joe a warm glass of Butterbeer.
"So, since it's recent news, I'll ask this first. You're November's Heir of Slytherin! How do you feel about this?"
"Surprised. I don't know who nominated me, but I'm really glad about it too. I feel like it's a big honour and the first thing I thought was 'woah! I can control the Basilisk' ," he said, grinning. I couldn't help but to chuckle at his answer.
"I couldn't help but notice that you just joined HEX this year. What is your favorite thing about HEX so far?"
"My favourite thing about HEX would be the various events and also how all the users are so friendly. There are many rpg sites, but its not every time that users are willing to help each other like this. I've never seen arguments or issues on here and I love that."
"HEX really is a great place that many people love. What HEX event has been your favorite so far?" I asked, sipping my coffee.
"The Whispers in the Dark, since it was the first time I won prizes!"
"That really was a great one, wasn't it? Not that I'm biased at all...speaking of prizes, what is your favorite HEX item?"
"A lot of Hex items look absolutely awesome, but if I have to single one out, it would be Salazar's quill. I practically fell in love with it when I first saw it." It took him a little bit to figure it out, but he somehow managed to narrow it down. I know I can't do that to save my life!
"And do you collect any HEX items? Like junk or other collections?"
"I'm trying to collect all house items. I just love them," he answered, drinking some of his Butterbeer.
"All the items on HEX are pretty awesome! So, what is the number 1 thing you want for HEXmas? Wait! This'll be your first HEXmas! Are you excited for it?"
"Excited is an understatement. Halloween was a bash and I'm really looking forward to HEXmas. I loved the events and site-wides that were held and I can't wait for the next one. I made new friends and had a lot of fun during Halloween, so I'm hoping for more of that during HEXmas. As for what I want for HEXmas, I love all the Slytherin items and wishing for a Founder's quill seems too greedy. So I would be happy with any house item, like the house cup pendants. Or a potion. Those are really cool." Now you know what to get Joe for HEXmas. You're welcome! You can thank me later by giving me tons of coffee.
"Hm, so we went over your favorite HEX items and such. What about a favorite HEX Forum?"
"Besides our CR, my favourite forum would be the Contest Forum. I love logical puzzles, so I haunt that forum a lot." See, he's such a Slytherin that he would consider the Common Room a favorite.
"Do you have a favorite thing about Slytherin?"
"The friendly students and staff, and the site wide(I've only participated in one, but it was awesome). Mostly it is the common room and talking to all the other Slytherins." Now you know to chat it up with Joe! Go find him in the Common Room.
"Now what about HEX Publications, do you read those?"
"SOUP is the only one I've bothered to read through. I do check the Daily Prophet if I notice it on my news feed, but otherwise. Nah." He's even a total Slytherin when it comes to publications! You definitely want to be friends with this guy.
"If you went to Hogwarts, what would be your best subject? What would be your worst?" I decided to ask, curious as to what a good student like him would consider his best and worst.
"My best...would be Potions and worst would be History of Magic. I hate by-hearting dates and all."
"So, since it's the holidays, if you went to Hogwarts, would you stay there during the holidays or go back home?"
"Stay during holidays, of course!" There you have it! Joe loves the common room all year round!
"Since it'll soon be the holidays, what's your favorite holiday food?"
"I think bacon is a food for all seasons, lol. But if I have to pick one... My mom made a yule log cake once. It was heavenly and i love my chocolate." Now I wonder if we can get Joe's mom to send a huge yule log cake for all of us.
"Also with holidays in mind, since friends and family are a big part of it, would you like to give a shout-out to any of your best HEX friends?"
"Oana, Natalie, Ehl and Reynne come to my mind first (I even learned to spell Reynne's name right xD). I've also made some new friends like James, Astraia, Frances and Errika and would like to know them better. And there is a Gryffie girl named Alexa, who probably wouldn't see this. Oh, and Snage!" It seems that Joe has made quite a few friends so far.
"You'll be surprised who all reads SOUP! Though, what are some of your favorite things to do around this time of year?" Unfortunately, this was when the fire seemed to die down a bit, making it a tad colder in the room.
"I live in Australia and we don't have snow here in December. It's summer time. It does snow here. Just that it snows during the time when you have summer. The summer and winter months are reversed. So I like playing soccer at the beach or riding my motorbike. Typical summer activities." Sure sounds fun, right!
"Living in Australia during this time of the year sounds fun! Would you ever want to go somewhere where it does snow during the holidays?" I wonder how he manages to be in the Christmas spirit without snow!
"I'd love to visit Switzerland.... And, actually yes, I do want to experience white Christmas. Though I don't have a particular place in mind for that. Maybe it will be Switzerland!"
"Alright, so I know this will be a drastic change in topic, but we can't let this slip by! You have an amazing portfolio in the Chamber of Secrets. Is this just a hobby or would you like to have drawing as a part of a career?" Have you seen his work? If not, I suggest going and checking it out...after you finish reading SOUP, of course.
"Drawing anime is just a hobby at the moment. I really wanted to do a major in animation (and several useless things as well) but, my parents felt that I should get a steady job first. I might go for animation after my engineering, maybe." Joe answered the question thoroughly, sighing at the end. You can see that he really does like animation.
"So, when did you start drawing? And what is your favorite piece of work that you've created?"
"I started drawing when I was in fifth grade. I started with Disney and then advanced to anime and pencil shading in eleventh grade. And my favourite piece would be the picture of a guy and girl doing a pinky promise. I have drawn better pictures, but I drew that one for a friend of mine at her request. So it holds...sentimental value." Such great answers!
"You really are great to interview! However, I think we only have time for one more question...you know, since there's a lot of homework to do before the holidays! So, let's end with...what is your favorie Harry Potter character?"
"I can never decide between Snape and Sirius. Both are awesome characters in their own way."
And this is how we ended the interview. I thanked him for letting me have so much of his time. He's really a nice person and you should all stop and tell him hi!
Now to take care of our cups and then off to bed!
See you next time,
Nicole
