Hello again, everyone! It's Cissarose again and this month had me searching the Hobbit Library for a while when suddenly the answer hit me. That's when I realised I could use flowers in a different way. What about a blossoming relationship instead of flowers? You know like flowers coming into bloom.
That led me to a book I've heard a lot about, but never read. I'm talking about Book Lovers by Emily Henry. It's a book about a couple, Nora and Charlie. Nora is a literary agent and Charlie is a book editor. They both live in New York and right from their first meeting, it's obvious there is something there.
Before that meeting, however, we learn that Nora's love life has fallen apart. The prologue confused me as I was unsure why it was there. It felt unnecessary because Nora herself explains why she was late to the meeting. However, it did give an insight into Nora and her sister's relationship.
Libby, Nora's sister, suggests a trip, as she wants to go to the real life town of one of her favourite books. However, there's a plot twist, not just for the reader, but for Nora as well! It's Charlie's home town, and where he's currently staying! How's that for a plot twist?
From the moment they meet, the attraction between Nora and Charlie is obvious, even if they both deny and ignore it. They actually despise each other at the start, so it's funny to read about their feelings of attraction towards each other, especially when they publicly view each other as rivals. I love that it adds some tension to the plot, making you wonder if they ever will give in to the attraction.
As they start getting along better, taking a meet in the middle approach, there is another plot twist. The author Nora is representing, Dusty, is currently writing her latest book. Dusty's editor has her baby early, and suggests Charlie as the new editor to help stay on track with the deadlines. Nora convinces Dusty and that's when things start to heat up.
I spent most of the afternoon reading the book, eager to see more of the blossoming romance between Nora and Charlie, as they learned more about each other, rubberbanding between wanting to admit their attraction and trying to resist and focus on the job in hand. Emily Henry did a great job building things up. I'm just over halfway through, and I really want to get the book finished, so I can find out how it all ends.
I love the idea that Nora and Charlie try to act like they don't like each other, while everyone else, including Nora's sister Libby, know it's obvious that they are attracted to each other. The plot twist adds intrigue, and now, I really want to know how it all ends up! How will Nora and Charlie get together now?
That's all from the Hobbit Library this month, as I'm heading back to reading now. Briellerose should be with you next month.
Lots of love, Cissarose xx
