Crafty Corner

By Sylvie DeLorn

Are you looking for that perfect way to confess an undying love for the person of your affections only to find out that the main attention of their love is directed straight towards books and other forms of literature? Well don't worry, as this month's craft is all about finding the perfect way to confess your feelings for them in a way that they'll appreciate!

As every true book lover will know, putting down that book is a hard thing to do, especially when there's nothing for them to mark their place with. In just a few easy steps, a sheet of paper, and some folding skills, you'll be able to make them their very own birthmark with your feelings written all over it.

To begin will, you'll need a square sheet of paper, only one will be required for a finished project this time, I promise. The size of the sheet will affect the size of the bookmark, so keep this in mind.

I. Fold the paper in half.

II. Then fold it in half again.

III. With one of the square flaps, you're going to open it up, keeping a hold on the bottom corner. Then fold it down the middle, this will create a triangle on that flap.

IV. Flip the paper over and repeat step three on the other side.

V. On one side of the paper, take the top flaps on the triangle and fold them upwards. The bottom edges of the flaps should be side by side on the middle of the page. Then unfold those.

VI. Take the top corner of the triangle and fold it town to the bottom edge of the paper, crease, then unfold.

VII. Open up the first flap of the triangle, pushing the two sides to meet in the middle before creasing. This should make a square fold.

VIII. Fold the top of that flap down.

IX. Then fold the bottom half of that same flap upwards.

X. On the upper half of the flap, pull the front part of it open and crease it closed. This should create two opposite facing triangles on both sides.

XI. Fold the bottom two squares up to create secondary triangles.

XII. Flip the entire flap up in its original position.

And there, you've created a heart bookmark that can be slipped on the corner of any group of pages that your romantic interest might be wishing to save for a later time. If you even feel compelled to, you could write a little poem of your affections for this August season. Or if you're not the writing type, you could always doodle a cute little cartoon for them to enjoy when their eyes begin to hurt from staring at words for too long.

With whatever you decide to do, I bid you farewell.

Happy crafting,
Sylvie.
