Chatting with Cam and Des

By James Rowle XI

Hello loyal readers, and welcome to another issue of Chatting With. I must admit, once more, it was a difficult struggle to decided just who to interview. Why can't the editors just order me to interview someone in particular? But no, I must make the hard decisions.

Anyway, I decided to interview two different people this week. How exciting! Even more so because I would be interviewing them at the same time. The first choice is an obvious one when the topic is romance. And luckily enough for me, she even works in this very building. I am of course talking about my lovely wife, Desiree Snow. Some of you may recognize her as a previous Slytherin Prefect, and a current Social Media Moderator.

So here we were, Desiree and I, staring into one another's eyes. Unknown to her, I was really looking past her at the coffee machine. Moving on, Desiree seemed to be getting slightly impatient waiting for the unknown second person. Moments later walked in the beautiful Camila (Ilostmyleftshoe).

Q – Question
D – Desiree
C – Camila

D – Really? Your wife and your mistress?

[Yes, you heard that right. I really decided to interview my wife and mistress at the very same time, in the very same room. Fortunately, they somehow get along just fine. Which now I think about it, is quite concerning.]

Q – Ahem, yes, well, got to keep life interesting somehow. First question, what do you think romance is?

D - Romance can be seen in the things that people who are in love do to, for, and with each other. [Here she gave a cute little smile.]

C - I think Romance is when your heart beats faster than usual. It's more of a title to the moments which you spend with someone in particular who makes you feel things like you've never felt before. Someone who makes you feel every emotion in an intense way. Sort of like the Vampires from The Vampire Diaries, they feel their emotions to the extreme.

[Cam follows this up with an awkward shrug. Possible a bit nervous at giving such an in depth answer. Or maybe it was having to sit next to my wife, who knows.]

Q – What is your idea of a perfect romantic date?

D- A place with a nice view and great coffee. Somewhere you can have a good conversation with someone you enjoy spending time with.

C - A perfect romantic date for me is more based on having an intimate moment with someone. By that I mean, having a moment where you connect to learn about each other. For me, it's not based on a place. I could go anywhere and have a date, but it's a matter of how much time will you dedicate to the other person during this time that makes it romantic.

[I hope all you single people out there are taking notes, because I'm getting you gold. Desiree is even nodding in agreement to Camila's answer. ]

Q – What is your favorite couple in the Harry Potter Series?

C - I would have to say Ron and Hermione. They went through a lot of situations during their relationship and in the end they worked through all of them.

D - Lupin and Tonks. Those two couldn't be anymore different from each other, but somehow.. they make the perfect pair.

C - I definitely have to agree. Lupin and Tonks are a wonderful couple. It makes me sad everytime I think that they sacrificed themselves for the future of their child.

[At the end of this sentence tears slowly filled Camila's eyes. Quickly, I slid over a box of tissues and tried to move on.]

Q – Who do you consider more romantic, Hagrid or Ron Weasley?

C- Hagrid. Hands down. I mean, I love Ron but I think we also have to understand that Hagrid has more years on Ron.

D - Hagrid. Duh. [Desiree pokes her tongue out at me like it's a silly question.]

C - Right?! Sorry, Ron Weasley, but you got no game. Hagrid is a gentleman.

Q - You say Hagrid is more romantic than Ron, is that because of the suit?

D - That and the beard.

[I nod along at this point, stroking my beard thoughtfully.]

Q - What book do you consider romantic?

D - Oh God. This is hard... hmmm.... If I had to pick just one. I'd go with "Love, Rosie" by Cecilia Ahern.

C - Right? It's so hard to just pick ONE book. There are so many beautiful Romantic books out there. Just imagine, we probably haven't read yet the greatest Romance book. We just think we have...

[Camila at this stage looked on the edge of a panic attack. I try to seem empathetic and she moves onto her answer.]

C - Well, my mother would barge into a room and scream "OUTLANDER!" but I'm gonna go ahead and say "The Selection" by Kiera Cass. It's the most recent book I've read where I also fall in love with the characters and their journey to finding each other. But I also fell in love with "Eleanor and Park" by Rainbow Rowell. They are tied in for first place in my heart.

Q - If you had to recommend any book (of any genre) to someone, what book would it be?

D - "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy, but they'd probably just throw it at me after seeing how long it is.

C - Well, I'll give you two.

My first recommendation would be "Eleanor & Park" by Rainbow Rowell. It's such an intense ride throughout the entire book. It's a book that I relate to, to an extent. Honestly, when I read it I identified SO much with the characters. If you are looking for a romance, heartbreak, set back in the 80's, High School story, possibly could have happened story, that's the one.

My second recommendation would be "This Star Won't Go Out" by Esther Earl. This book is about the girl who inspired John Green to write "The Fault In Our Stars". The book is essentially her diary that she wrote during her years of going through therapy and what life was like for her. It's beautiful and nerdy because she loves Harry Potter. Also, she's the reason I joined HEX in the first place. I don't know if she knew about HEX but she made me want to search for a Harry Potter, nerdy, community. I was going through a hard time and all I wanted was a safe place where I could be me and she helped me find it. It's HEX and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

And so concluded what was possibly the most stressful interview in my short career. Yet as a reporter I must go into difficult, and potentially deadly, environments to give you all the best information possible. This of course counts as both and I am just in sheer amazement that I escaped relatively unscathed to give you the results. Now you all have some good book recommendations, some romantic tips, and even advice on which Harry Potter character to not act like.

Until next time faithful readers.
