Good Morning my dear readers. Today is the first day of spring and this little dragon is outside enjoying the fresh, sunny air, having been woken up by my very over-excited owl. The little darling was keen to let me know that our dear editors had finally decided on this month's theme.
As I'm reading over the letter, I realize that the chore I was trying to avoid, spring cleaning, is now unavoidable as the editors are making us all tackle the subject head on in a debate style challenge. Do I spring clean or avoid it entirely?
Glancing around my cave I noticed that my craft corner was a mess. Everything was thrown haphazardly into a pile as if a mini tornado had rumbled through my cave. Who knows what I had over there. Honestly, I would rather be on my way to the coast to spend the day at the beach, but I realized that the need to get my craft corner clean and organized was much more pressing.
Getting up and wandering over to the monstrous mess, with a sigh of resignation, I reach up and start making smaller piles. As I am steadily working my way through the supplies, my attention is caught by a bunch of leftover yarn that I had forgotten that I had. Musing to myself thoughtfully, I had the urge to craft using the supplies I didn't know I had. Once I had finished organizing and putting my crafting corner back together. I decided that I would treat myself to a nice relaxing flight over the beach as reward for a good hours work.
Flying low over the beach, the wind ruffling my scales as it streamed past. I saw something glint in the hazy sunlight. Once I was hovering above it, I noticed it was an old washed-up bottle. Hurrah! A sudden idea popped into my head like a lightbulb flash. I could repurpose the leftover yarn, and the bottle! It was a moment of genius. I was going to make a pretty new piece of home decor using things that would normally be thrown out.
Supplies
Yarn
Sticking charm
Wand
Old glass bottle or vase
Instructions
1. Select and plan out the yarn and pattern, will it be different weights, colors, or material? Experiment, have fun with it as different yarns will create different effects.
2. Starting at the top of the bottle, apply the sticking charm, just under the edge.
3. Press the Yarn into the sticking charm horizontally, leaving a tail end. Point tail-end downward and start wrapping. As you wrap it will hide the end
4. As You wrap the yarn, you will want each layer of yarn to rest close to the next, without any space between
5. Try playing with the different tensions to see what works best
6. When you get to the curve, you may need to ease up on the tension or apply another sticking charm
7. Continue down the bottle, until You reach the bottom
8. Apply another sticking charm along the base, once the yarn is set, snip the end
9. Display with a few flowers, or on their own.
I hope you have fun making your newest home decor items. I know I had a blast with this project. Thanks to the editors, your friendly little dragon got all her craft supplies cleaned and organized too, so I can now find everything. Plus, not only did I get to do a fun craft , I was also able to remove trash from the beach. A very fun and productive day overall. Until the next time I get bit by the crafting bug, good night my dear readers.
