In honor of the Earth Day celebrations over here at SOUP, I've decided to dedicate this month's article to eco-friendly art methods. There are many ways to create art that don't include canvases. Art is a way of creating beauty with the unexpected.
The first curious method I found below is using plastic bottles to recreate nature. If this is an idea that draws you in, you should start by gathering all the plastic bottles you intended to throw out. Instead of getting rid of them or throwing them in the trash, now you can repurpose them! You should cut plastic bottles and connect them with either tape or glue to create cactus or trees. The more you add, the taller they are. If you have any paints, you can decorate your greens with some flowers! Another idea I came across was using old newspapers and magazines to cut out and glue them on.
Instead of throwing away your cans, you can also repurpose these little metal containers! All that really needs to be done is to clean them. From there, you can start painting them with any designs that you like. Personally, I'd suggest something nature-related like blue skies or sapphire and emerald ocean waves in honor of Earth Day! Of course, the design is really up to. After that, you can use any kind of rope to glue or wrap around your new jingly chimes!
Before I wrap up, I want to talk to you about replacing your brushes with another curious item. If you have any corks laying around your house or are looking for a reason to pop some champagne open, this is the art method for you. Once you have collected some corks you can go ahead and gather your paints. In the image below, they decided to cut out the shape of a rainbow on a white sheet of paper and then use an array of colors to cover the arch in. This is something you can do too! Maybe experiment a little with other designs and other colors.
These are only a few of the variety of amazing ideas that can be created with items you can find around your house. I encourage you to search some more ideas that are eco-friendly and sustainable. I encourage everyone to go find a new way of creating art! Don't be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone. The most interesting pieces usually arise from odd places.
This is Camila tuning out!
