Dumbledore: The Man. The Myth. ..the..Bunny??
By Lenalie
Spring is notorious for making people act a little, well, strange. Those of us here at SOUP Headquarters know this all too well, considering we've been drowning in daisy chains all month. Our news reporters, Lulu and Tyler, have been crafting chain after chain in a makeshift assembly line on the office floor. They've even roped Kreacher into the chore, when he should be getting me my hot cup of chamomile tea. How am I supposed to write without my tea? But I digress... Spring Fever has definitely hit Hogwarts, and it's hitting hard.
I could write about a number of things to illustrate my point. Professor Snape has become a flower child, for instance, trading in his black robes for white and wearing one of Lulu's daisy chains on his head as a tiara, skipping about the castle with a basket of rose petals. (It's almost more frightening than his usually menacing disposition.) The Common Room has been stirring with riveting speeches about saving the environment and all that tree-hugging babble thanks to our prefects, Sara and April. The strangest incident of all, however, takes place outside of Slytherin house, all the way up the ladder to our Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. The old man has always been a bit batty, but things get even stranger around this time of year, and I, being the determined little writer that I am, have finally discovered why! Albus Dumbledore is none other than the Easter Bunny. Yes, that's right. The Easter Bunny.
It makes total sense, as I'm sure you will agree after I present my compelling evidence. First of all, the Easter Bunny was originally known as the Easter Hare, and Dumbledore has a lot of what? That's right–hair! Plus, bunnies have white fur, and what color is Dumbledore's hair? You guessed it's –white. Sure, he's ancient, but even in his youth, the wizard's hair was brown. That's another bunny color, people! I don't know how we've missed this connection for so long.
Second, Dumbledore is notorious for robes of many different colors. There is something else we know to be colorful, something related to Easter. Yes, Easter eggs! Of course the Easter Bunny would be fond of color in his everyday attire, considering his affinity for eggs dyed in all different shades and patterns. Dumbledore fits the bill perfectly. Strike two, sir!
The Headmaster is also well-known for his love of sweets. Even the password to his office is always some sugary delicacy of one kind or another: Lemon drops, acid pops, and toffee are just a few examples. Once again, there are some striking similarities between Dumbledore and this elusive rabbit that runs rampant on Easter. The holiday is quite synonymous with sweets nowadays, from chocolate bunnies to marshmallow Peeps. Surely the icon of this holiday would be someone fond of sweets, and who loves candy more than Dumbledore? No one!
I am sure I have you all convinced by now, but just to be certain, I will draw a comparison between just one more thing: the Easter bunny loves to send people on wild hunts for information. He leaves eggs everywhere and lets children search for hours to find these colorful items. As we all know, Dumbledore is also fond of leaving children with tidbits of information and vague hints, only to send them on a wild goose chase off to who knows where. What does this mean? You should know the answer by now! This practically screams Easter Bunny!
If you still don't believe me, just follow the man around for a while around Easter time. Trust me, you will see the signs. He hops, does that little sniffy thing that bunnies do with their noses, and I swear I once saw a large, floppy ear peeking out of his hat. If that doesn't persuade you, I don't know what will. Try opening your mind a little more! It can do wonders.
Keep an eye out for bunny tails! Until next time,
